1. MICHAEL CASSON (ML Lions Blue) - "for the second time in two weeks, he kept Lions in the game. Some very brave keeping from corners and one on ones meant that Redbridge couldn’t add more to their tally"

2. BEN KON (Hendon Utd SC A) - "had his hands full, but stood up strong throughout" against NLR A

MMFL Tour of Israel 2014 review

Stuart Lustigman reflects on the Maccabi Masters Football League's latest Israel tour.

20 players and 12 supporters comprised the MMFL Israel Tour 2014. After an absence of three years, 17 players were making return visits, whereas three players and three supporters were joining the tour for the first time. Tour organiser Stuart Lustigman and Brian Cowan were the only ever-presents.

A brace from Manu Schultz inspired Inter Tel Aviv to an impressive 3-0 victory at Ashdod in the Sports Direct Olim League.

With both teams going into this game on six points, all the signs pointed towards a close contest, and it started that way right from the off.

Heaton Park Rovers’ prolific pair of Harry Roache and Jonny Franks were on target to down Reich Insurance Rangers.

Roache bagged a brace and Franks also netted as HPR sealed a late win.

Shiffman keeps Haroldeans in the mix

Haroldeans remain in the hunt at the top after Adam Shiffman inspired the comeback win over Oakhill Lions.

The students held a half-time time lead when Saul Hoyland seized on a defensive mistake early on.

But Shiffman struck a quickfire double after the break to ensure the Merseysiders kept up the pace.

Leeds Maccabi went goal crazy once again to maintain their 100 per start to the season.

The Yorkshire side racked up nine goals for the third time in just seven games with rock-bottom Maccabi Manchester Blue the latest side to come a cropper.

AFC FLIXTON 5 MACCABI MANCHESTER 2nd 0

Stuart Delmonte praised his troops for a job well done as AFC Flixton swept past Maccabi Manchester 2nds in the Handicup Cup.

Flixton starting the game with a two-goal deficit, as per by the tournament’s rules, but they soon wiped this out thanks to a hat-trick from Adam Stephens.

Lewis lets Ra'anana off the hook

Runaway league leaders Ra'anana made the trip to the capital to take on in-form Jerusalem who had climbed to second.

Both sides were missing a couple of players, but were nonetheless near full strength for this titanic battle between the league's two top scoring teams and two of the meanest defences.
