Peter Morrison Cup holders Manchester Maccabi 1st eased into the National Round following a comfortable victory over Republic of Mancunia 1st.

An own-goal and a second half double from substitute Jay McGarvey ensured Maccabi’s place in the next round.

Republic’s day went from bad to worse when Anthony Jacobs was shown a second yellow card for dissent.

South Manchester Sports survived a tricky tie on a quagmire of a pitch against opponents who never gave up.

The tie resembled a typical third round FA Cup game as the passing game of South Manchester was eliminated by the pitch and tough tackling opponents.

Sharpe ready to stoke the fire

Sporting boss Gavin Sharpe loves the fact his side has been labelled as the ‘Stoke City’ of the MJSL and says his players are ready to kick Hyde Park’s Peter Morrison Cup hopes in to touch.

Rovers manager David Domb has likened Sporting’s style of play to that of Tony Pulis’ Stoke ahead of the weekend’s clash at Frederick Road.

Maccabi have endured a dismal start to the season, losing all eight games in the Leeds Sunday Alliance Division One.

Simon Fisher’s side have scored just six goals and conceded 51 to leave them rooted to the bottom of the table.
