Hyde Park wins nine-goal thriller

A last-minute penalty from Dave Cohen helped Hyde Park Rovers return to winning ways as they won a nine-goal thriller against South Manchester Sports Club 2nd.

An end-to-end contest in the Joan Collins Premier Division saw Rovers dampen a rousing comeback by South and left manager Phillip Braham was relieved to clinch the points.

“We should have sealed the game off when we were 4-2 up, but credit to South Manchester for getting back into the game. We’re lucky to have come out with the three as it was a hard fought game.”

Westdene pay the penalty after points failure

Westdene went down 3-0 to Haroldeans but still took home three points as some of their players were stopped and handed a three point penalty for speeding. Things weren’t much better on the pitch for the visiting side, though they put up a valiant display in the face of an horrendous injury crisis. Half of their 18 man squad out through injury, meaning that they had to field two players without prior experience in senior 11-a-side football, one of whom had been out injured for a year.

We won't get carried away, says Simons

Martin Simons, manager of Manchester Maccabi, is refusing to get carried away after his team claimed an eighth successive league victory to open up a three point lead at the top of the MJSL.
A hat-trick from Adam Stevens took them three points clear of nearest rivals Republic of Mancunia.

"I don't want to be over-confident," Simons warned. "We could suffer injuries or other teams could go on a good run.

"What I would say is that if we continue to play as we have been then we stand a very good chance of being there at the death."

South Manchester rediscover winning formula

South Manchester 1st finally found their scoring touch against bottom of the table Accenture,and avoided being dragged into a relegation tussle in the process.

True to form, as happened last week, a chance was missed in the first minute when a Jacobs cross was somehow missed by the South forwards.

Ultimately it was not to affect the result but after missing a number of chances it was no surprise when South fell to the usual sucker punch conceding to a set piece after 30 minutes.

MJSL chief tells teams to clean up their act

League chiefs believe their latest meeting with club members will help curb the division’s violent streak.
Tempers have flared throughout the season with three red cards and 27 yellows having been dished out in the opening 36 games.

And following last week’s 20-man brawl in the game between Westdene 2nd and Sporting JLGB, league secretary Paul Rose is hoping the latest talks have helped clear the air.

Fever pitch: rules on violence to be tightened

MJSL chiefs are ready to crack down on clubs who fail to control their players following the latest outburst of violence.

Westdene 2nd and Sporting JLGB were involved in ugly clashes at the end of a bad-tempered league game as the MJSL's reputation was dragged through the mud once again.

Hyde Park Rovers were reprimanded earlier in the season after receiving a number of red cards, while the league has raised doubts over a lack of discipline shown by teams and players.

Republic don't fear anyone, says Bloch

Republic of Mancunia are determined to fire the title race wide open when they meet championship rivals Manchester Maccabi 3rd.

Republic sit third in the league, level on points with second place Maccabi and leaders South Manchester after an impressive run of form.

And after two Moishe Hasid goals gave them a 2-0 win at Oakhill Lions, Republic are now aiming to extend their unbeaten run with victory over Maccabi.

"We're bang in form at the moment and we just want to keep on playing and winning," said Republic star Anthony Bloch.

Hasid double delight for Mancunia

A Moshe Hasid double helped maintain Republic of Mancunia’s title dreams as they overcame Oakhill Lions in the MJSL.

With four key players out for Mancunia this was a test on the quality of their squad and they certainly stepped up.

After a couple of early attacks by Oakhill, Mancunia got into gear and took control of the game after a few half chance. Hasid created two great chances for himself but was unable to get past Oakhill keeper Lyons.

A four-goal salvo from Ben Peppi steered South Manchester Sports Club 2nds to a 7-3 victory over Westdene 1st.

Simon Davis added two more and Jonny Tenzer another as South Manchester came from a goal down to claim the points.

Oli Grant and Ben Roback’s deflected strike helped Hyde Park Rovers beat Westdene 2nd 2-0.

Crumpsall’s miserable start to the season continued after they suffered a 7-0 defeat at Sporting JLGB.

Josh Taylor scored twice, while Uri Steinberg, Saul Davies, Danny Jacobs, Adam Schwinger and Jamie Bowden also got on the scoresheet.

MJSL best is yet to come, says Simons

Martin Simons has struck fear into the hearts of the MJSL by declaring there's more to come from his rampant Maccabi machine.

The league leaders racked up their fifth consecutive victory of the season to maintain their 100 per cent record following a comfortable 2-0 win over Westdene 1sts.

Talented midfielder Louie Basso continued his impressive run of form with a classy double to give Maccabi victory and send them six points clear at the summit.

But manager Simons was left unimpressed with his side's showing – despite watching them romp to victory yet again.
