Hyde Park Rovers march on

Hyde Park cruised to a 3-1 win over Westdene 1st as they extended their lead at the top of the table in their penultimate game of the season. Oli Grant, Philip Braham and Jason Wise struck for the title chasers.

Grant put the visitors ahead when player-manager Braham threaded a pass through to him, and he rounded the goalkeeper to score.

Republic of Mancunia

Republic of Mancunia extended their unbeaten run to 11 games with a 3-0 win over Crumpsall. The victory saw Anthony Bloch’s men continue their march towards the treble.

Bloch said: “We are playing well. Though the 3-0 was not as convincing as we would like, Maccabi losing is better than us winning 25-0! For the first time this season we have the league in our hands.”

Oakhill given final warning

While Sporting JLGB were celebrating a 3-0 victory, Oakhill Lions had more pressing matters to deal with off the pitch as they were threatened with expulsion from the Manchester Jewish Soccer League after they were found guilty of fielding an ineligible player for the second time this season.

Joy for Sporting JLGB

Oakhill lost 3-0 to Sporting JLGE in the Tony Cohen Memorial Cup quarter final as Alex Woolf struck twice and Jamie Bowden got the third goal for the visitors.

It was a more even game than the scoreline suggested according to Sporting assistant-manager Ryan Sidle.

Victory over Westdene 1st last weekend, where Mike Gastwirth fired a hat-trick, means Republic are now just four points off league leaders Manchester Maccabi with a title showdown between the two still on the cards.

Leeds cruise in the cup

Two goals from Richard Black helped Leeds Maccabi cruise into the fourth round of the Peter Morrison Trophy as they overpowered Haroldeans in Liverpool.
Following weather disruptions, the tie finally went ahead at the fourth time of asking and it was the visitors who made all the running.

Black was the star man while further strikes from Colin Abrahams, Dan Ross and Rob Brown set up a tie against Sporting JLGB. Josh Silverberg and Paul Harris replied for Haroldeans.

Five-star Oakhill stun the leaders

League leaders Manchester Maccabi 3rd suffered a second successive defeat as they were crushed 5-1 by Oakhill Lions.

Oakhill staged a stunning second half recovering after going a goal down.

Josh Hayes had put the visitors in front but a brace from Dan Cohen, an own goal and strikes from Ben Horne and Yoel Deal sealed a sensational win.

Manager Daniel Berkley said: “It was really nice to get a strong Oakhill team out and we were well worth the win.”

Westdene fined after post-match clashes

Westdene have been fined by the Lancashire FA following a scuffle after a match with Sporting JLGB.

Westdene won a bad-tempered contest which boiled over after the final whistle when Brad Levy was set upon by some Sporting players. Paul Levy, his father, then ran on to the pitch to break up the fight.

Referee Tim Myerson's report criticised Westdene boss Paul Levy and the club was charged "for failure to control a Westdene member or fan". Steve Davis defended Westdene alongside Levy at the hearing and they took Sporting's Rafi Bloom to speak in their defence.

Cohen clinches it for Oakhill Lions

Oakhill Lions won a topsy-turvy game 3-2 with a last minute winner from Dan Cohen. Joni Kleiman had put them in front early on before Saul Clarke and Ben Rose put Westdene ahead at half time. Alex Goodman got Oakhill’s equaliser before Cohen’s winner, to the dismay of Westdene manager Steve Davis.

“It could have gone either way. think it was a very good advert for the MJSL considering we’re both in bottom four or five.”

Haroldeans humbled by Westdene 2nd

Bottom of the table Westdene 2nd stunned MJSL champions Haroldeans with some superb defending allied to ruthlessness on the counter attack.

Daniel Klapish scored both Westdene goals, with Haroldeans getting a goal back from Jamie Harris. The home side’s manager Ivan Gee felt his side dominated but that the visitors deserved the win.

“Haroldeans had about 80-90% of the play but we could not score. They played well. Their goalkeeper was very good and Klapish is fabulous, a very good player.”
