Paul Rose believes the future's bright going into the 63rd year of the MJSL.

Joint vice-chairman Rose, who will continue to oversee secretarial duties within the MJSL, is full of excitement ahead of the new campaign.

Broughton, Republic of Mancunia 2nd and Leeds Maccabi 3rd are new entrants to the division.

Basger volley seals the first trophy of the season for Republic

Republic of Mancunia cruised to a comfortable 2-0 win over South Manchester in the curtain raiser to the new Manchester Jewish League season.

New boss Stuart Shapiro was pleased with his team's performance, and is looking forward to picking up more silverware over the course of the season.

An MJSL XI beat a Manchester Maccabi XI 3-0 in a game played in memory of Darren Rose.

Jack Lee scored twice and Dave Eden added the other for the MJSL team co--managed by Fraser Saville and Neil Collins.

The Manchester Jewish Soccer League is set to scrap its plan to run a new two-tier system after Westdene manager Steve Davis pulled out both his teams.

The league had planned to introduce a second division but having discovered that Westdene 1st and 2nd were designated to the bottom group, Davis withdrew the club.

Basso voted No. 1

Louie Basso is the MJSL Player of the Year.

The Manchester Maccabi youngster received the Tony Waltzer Trophy at Oldham Athletic on Sunday.

Basso, 17, also plays for Altrincham Boys. He capped a fine year by helping the Brooklands club win the Peter Morrison Trophy and MJSL title.

Oli Grant retained the Steve Blackstone top-scorer award with 25 goals.
