By Danny Caro, February 1, 2011

North London Raiders C are toasting a win double after defender Matt Greene and Oli Shorts scooped my respective JC MSFL Player and Manager of the Month awards for January.

Greene received praise from Shorts for “coming into the team and effortlessly slotting into the holding midfield role. He has also covered in defence on a few occasions and popped up with some vital goals and some assists to boot”.

Danny Caro's Team of the Week - Jan 30

By Danny Caro, February 1, 2011

Josh Cohen (Los Blancos) - “as put forward by opposing manager Simon Linden, Josh was everywhere today. It was a scrappy affair on a poor pitch which made both goalies lives harder than normal, but Josh was in true command of his area and cleared up anything that came his way. By no means at fault for Blizzard's goal, JC's box was peppered with crosses for the remaining 25 minutes as we held on to our lead, but not once did he look like conceding again. He pulled off a superb one handed save, tipping a ball destined for the top corner over the bar in the closing stages”

The game started in a tepid fashion, save for a brilliant Ben Solossi run down the left which led to a vital save at his feet by Faithfold goalkeeper Ben Law.

It suddenly sprung to life, however, when centre back Adam Hakimi inexplicably stuck out a hand from a cross to give away a penalty. Veteran Daryl Phillips took two steps and then perfectly slotted home the spot kick into the top cornet to give his side a 17th minute lead.

Managers call for MSFL revamp

By Danny Caro, January 28, 2011

The Maccabi League is in need of a serious restructure, say some of its top managers who believe a complete overhaul is vital to make it more competitive and credible.

They have called for change after the Premier Division was cut to eight teams for the second consecutive season. This means that relegation from the top-flight appears unlikely and some teams are only four matches away from completing their league season.
