JC MSFL Week 1 review

The JC MSFL season 2011/12 kicked-off in style on Sunday with goals aplenty across the five divisions, with defending champions Redbridge Jewish Care A sharing the points after a 10-goal thriller at North London Raiders A, while the top score saw Shirley Park thrash Team JLGB 18-0.

Fox: Help us respect you

Martin Fox, the JC MSFL’s Referees Secretary, believes that the RESPECT campaign is a two-way thing.

Fox said: “I want everyone to respect the RESPECT campaign. I want to see more teams respect refs. I want to see more teams, win or lose, shake the hand of the ref and more sportsmanship. People must remember that it’s not the referee’s fault when a team loses.

Wolff: We have a lot to look forward to

David Wolff, chairman of the JC MSFL, believes that there is a lot to look forward to ahead of the new season.

Wolff, 66, has spearheaded the league for 41 years. He said: “The beginning of the season is always an exciting time. I’m pleased that we’ve increased the numbers, albeit slightly.”

Thornes out to burst the bubble

The Thornes mopped up last season as they were crowned second division champions with Daniel Lipman winning the top player award. Lipman, who will lead the team on his own this season, is targeting "a third consecutive promotion as well as two good cup runs".

Slater's Chigwell full of eastern promise

CHIGWELL ATHLETIC

Title contenders Chigwell could be the real deal this season, especially in a brand new JC-sponsored kit. Manager Richard Slater said: "If we manage to keep a fit squad throughout the season I believe we'll be in the mix.

"The club has won every other lower league, but the title has slipped away twice now."

Smiles for FC Team as Moss does Dad proud

There was an emotional and fitting tribute to the late Peter Moss as FC Team drew 2-2 with a Tottenham legends XI in an entertaining memorial game for the MSFL Premier Division side's former President.

A Tottenham team including Steve Sedgley, Andy Sinton and Justin Edinburgh all turned out but it was Peter's son, Gideon, who stole the show.
