Perfect 10 inspires Neasden

By Danny Caro, February 10, 2011

Darren Yarlett was full of praise for his Neasden team who clinched their place in the last four of the JC Cyril Anekstein Cup after knocking out last season's winners in a game they played with 10 men for 75 minutes.

Player-coach Yarlett was in charge of the team as manager Jamie Cole was in Las Vegas. He limped off with a hamstring injury but masterminded a hard fought win from the sidelines.

A late strike from Lee Cash, his second of the game, plus one from Ben Ellis took Neasden through.

Pete Lazard and Ben Joseph were the marksmen for the Lions.

Both sides were missing key players going into the game. For Lions, midfielder Ricky Kennet, matchwinner of the semi-final against Neasden A, failed to make the squad with a back injury forcing him out, while Hendon were missing key duo Alex Rosenthal and Josh Bentley, while Greg Corin was named on the bench, although on 70 per cent fit.

Oakwood manager Ric Blank was left cursing his luck after his team was denied a late penalty in the 2-1 defeat against Premier Division Faithfold in the quarter-finals of the JC Cyril Anekstein Cup.

With the match deep into stoppage time in extra time, Oakwood substitute Ben Myers went down following a challenge from Faithfold keeper Bradley Lee but referee Martin Fox, who had replaced Robert Bernardout, ignored their appeals.

Blanc said: "In my opinion it was a stonewall penalty. I just cannot understand why it was not given."
