Maccabi Tel Aviv to play Chelsea in Champions League group stages

Maccabi Tel Aviv will begin their Champions League group phase at the home of Premier League champions Chelsea.

Having beaten Swiss champions Basel on away goals, Slavisa Jokanovic's troops were drawn in Group G, with Porto and Dynamo Kiev completing the line-up.

Commenting on the draw, Jokanovic tweeted: "Tough group. We will respect our opponents and give our all on the pitch."

It will be a poignant occasion for many people for many different reasons. Having covered previous EMGs in Stirling, Antwerp, Rome and Vienna, this one will be extra special for me too as I visit the hometown of my late father for the first time.

Peter Morrison Trophy to remain national from round one

This season’s Peter Morrison Trophy will remain a national competition from round one, organisers have announced.

The format was criticised by teams from London after an overhaul at the beginning of last season, with former winners Faithfold withdrawing after being paired a team from the Manchester Jewish Soccer League in the early rounds.

Premier Division Oakwood A are one of only four teams in action in the opening round of this season's Cyril Anekstein Cup after 30 MGBSFL sides received byes.

Holders Norstar London Raiders A and last season's runners-up Hendon United Sports Club A have been guaranteed places in round two following Monday night's draw.
