Champions beaten in Maccabi Masters

The race for the Maccabi Masters League Division One title was blown wide open after leaders Glenthorne United A and defending champions Brady Maccabi A were beaten.

Glenthorne were beaten 2-1 by title hopefuls North London Raiders, for whom Jonny Dubiner and Ashley Davidson were on target. Second-placed Brady failed to make up any ground as they were beaten by the same score by South Mancunians. Neil Kochane scored for Brady, but strikes from David Hyman and Paul Rodin secured the win for Mancs.

Brady Maccabi close Masters gap

Goals from Jason Sears and Scott Ansher helped Brady Maccabi A close the gap at the top of Maccabi Masters League Division One with a 2-0 victory over North London Raiders.

A last-minute strike from Adam Brand plus two from Max Radford and an own goal set up London Maccabi Lions A’s 4-3 win over Faithfold. Russell Rich (2) and Danny Goldman struck for Faithfold.

London Maccabi Lions B recorded their first win of the season, beating Brady Maccabi B 2-0 in Division Two. Howard Freeman and debutant Mark Pollack found the net.

Masters round-up

Maccabi’s football masters (over 45s) completed their Israel tour with a hard-fought victory over Anglo Israel Masters, their third game in five days.

The 14-man squad, which included members of the gold medal-winning Maccabiah Games squad, had suffered two heavy defeats at the hands of Israel Masters, despite some outstanding goalkeeping by Lenny Wyse.

In the final match, captain Jon Holman put Maccabi ahead from distance but Moshe Frankfurter equalised minutes later.

Division One leaders Glenthorne United A extended their lead at the top to six points with a 4-1 win over South Mancunians. Jason Levy (2), Sid Shaw and Stewart Block scored. Darren Coon replied.

Marc Herman, Gideon Barnett, Dan Forman and an own goal saw Brady Maccabi A move into second following a 4-3 victory over London Maccabi Lions A. Andy Miller, Paul Wise and Nick Flitterman replied for Lions.

Barry Silkman (2) and Jacob Namer took EDRS Stonegrove to the top of Division Two following a 3-0 win over Brady Maccabi B.

Shaw-footed Glenthorne

Goals from Sid Shaw (2) and Paul Shamplina helped maintain Glenthorne United A’s unbeaten start in Division One as they accounted for South Mancunians 3-0.

Defending champions Brady Maccabi A got back to winning ways with a 5-0 mauling of title rivals North London Raiders. Scott Ansher (2), Marc Herman, Gideon Barnett and Jason Harris found the net. Brady manager Daniel Collins said: “We’re not giving up our title without a fight.”

Champions held up by the Manx

Defending champions Brady Maccabi A were forced to settle for a point against South Mancunians with Laurence Beck (2) and Nick Collins on target in a 3-3 draw in Division One. Paul Herszaft, Mark Powell and Jon Cohen netted for Manx.

Title rivals London Maccabi Lions A and Glenthorne United A drew 1-1. Nick Baum’s strike was cancelled out by Jason Levy.

Trevor Tucker, debutant Henry Charles and Martin Schultz were on target as Brady B overcame Ashlodge 3-2 in Division Two. Geoff Green and Glen Hyams replied.

Thornes open up in style

The opening weekend of the Maccabi Masters Football League saw victories for Glenthorne United A, North London Raiders and Glenthorne United B.

Sid Shaw (2), Adam Lennard and Jason Levy earned Glenthorne A a 4-2 win over Faithfold in Division One. Joel Nathan (2) replied.

North London Raiders beat London Maccabi Lions A 3-2 courtesy of goals from Richard Sacks, Paul Herszaft and Spencer Steinberg. Roger Sugarman and Darren Dryer replied.

Neil Richards and Danny Sellar steered Glenthorne B to a 2-1 success over Temple Fortune. Phil Bloomberg replied.

Matt finish for Lions

A Matt Stock double and one from Daniel Levenfiche gave London Lions a 3-1 win over Hertford Heath to send them clear at the top of the Herts Senior County League Premier Division.

Stock opened the scoring after 16 seconds as Lions made it 16 from 18 points. He added the second with a neat finish from an Adam Stolerman assist.

Hertford pulled one back but Daniel Levenfiche clinched the points with a tap-in 15 minutes from time.

Pel City thumped Division Two basement boys Clayhall B 10-0 with goals from Perry Somers (3), Andrew Cohen (2), Paul Herszaft, Eddie Saleh, Jonny Firmin, Ray Selman and Spencer Brookner.

Paul Cramer (2) and Arthur Duke earned London Maccabi Lions B finished in third place after a 3-2 win over Temple Fortune B.

Brady Maccabi A retained the Maccabi Masters Football League Division One title after drawing 3-3 nearest rivals North London Raiders. Scott Ansher, Marc Herman and Marc Lee scored the goals that secured the title for Brady who edged Raiders out by a point. Ashley Davidson (2) and

London Maccabi Lions A thumped Temple Fortune 6-1 thanks to a five-goal show from Danny Reuben plus one from Peter Lazard. Yari Mamouri scored Fortune’s consolation.
