EDRS clinch Masters League 2 title

EDRS Stonegrove clinched the Maccabi Masters Division Two title after beating Brady Maccabi B 3-2.

Gary Rose put Brady ahead inside the opening 30 seconds and they doubled the lead in controversial fashion minutes later when Marc Herman took advantage of an EDRS goal-kick, which hit an overhead wire.

However, in an act of sportsmanship which exemplifies the spirit of Masters football, Brady captain Malcolm Hershman allowed EDRS striker Phil Silver to score unchallenged from the kick-off to restore their lead to a single goal. Tony Platman (2) secured the points for EDRS.

Brady Maccabi in title contention

Brady Maccabi A moved to within two points of Division One leaders Glenthorne United A thanks to goals from Nick Collins (3) and Mark Wagman. Jason Levy and Richard Goldstein struck for Glenthorne.

Darren Gurner fired a hat-trick as Faithfold overcame London Maccabi Lions A 3-2.

Andy Miller and Nick Baum replied. EDRS Stonegrove require just one point from their remaining two games to secure the Division Two title after beating Ashlodge 3-1. Adam Kern, Jon Kaye and Jacob Namer were the marksmen.

Collins predicts ‘close’ Masters finish

Brady Maccabi A player-manager Daniel Collins predicted an exciting finish after his team closed the gap at the top of Division One to two points following a 4-2 victory over leaders Glenthorne United A.

A hat-trick from Nick Collins plus one from Mark Wagman saw them register their eighth win of the campaign. Jason Levy and Richard Goldstein struck for Glenthorne.

Collins said: “We’re closing the gap. It should be a good finish.”

Faithfold shock win in Masters League Cup

A double from Russell Rich helped Faithfold cause the shock of the round as they beat London Maccabi Lions A in the Maccabi Masters Football League Cup.

It was a bad weekend all round for the Rowley Lane club as Lions B went down 2-0 against South Mancunians following strikes from Jonathan Chippeck and Darren Coon.

North London Raiders thumped Norstar Old Boys 10-2 with goals from Paul Herszaft (3), Jonny Summerfield (3), Ashley Davidson (2), Richard Sacks and Neville Roach. Paul Marco and Lee Cohen replied.

Lions Masters out of Veterans Cup

London Maccabi Lions’ brave run in the London Masters Veterans Cup was halted at the quarter-finals stage after putting up a fine show against an Interwood Vets side including a number of ex-professionals.

Lining up against former Reading star Michael Gilkes and Andy Clarke, the ex-Barnet, Wimbledon winger, the Lions settled well into their stride against well drilled opponents.

Brady Maccabi reach for top spot

Brady Maccabi A moved to within two points of top spot with a 4-2 win over Faithfold in Maccabi Masters League Division One. Nick Collins, Gideon Barnett, Jonathan Cohen and Mark Wagman were the scorers. Faithfold’s goals came through Darren Gurner and Danny Goldman.

Temple Fortune went third in Division Two as goals from James Ryan (2), Robert Botkai and Steve Brower accounted for Ashlodge.

Resurgent London Maccabi Lions B mauled Glenthorne B 4-0 with goals from Mark Pollack, Marc Morris, Stuart Coutts and Howard Freeman.

A goal from Danny Goldman dented North London Raiders’s title aspirations as they were held 1-1 by Faithfold in Division One of the Maccabi Masters League. Ashley Davidson struck for a Raiders team who struck the woodwork three times.

Division Two table-toppers EDRS Stonegrove came from behind to beat nearest rivals Norstar Old Boys 3-1. Steve Feiger put Norstar ahead, but a strike from Phil Silver levelled before the break. Two goals from Ian Leader completed the comeback.

Four goals from Brian Deal steered Clayhall Park Casuals to a 4-1 victory over Ashlodge. Meir Velenski claimed a consolation.

Champions beaten in Maccabi Masters

The race for the Maccabi Masters League Division One title was blown wide open after leaders Glenthorne United A and defending champions Brady Maccabi A were beaten.

Glenthorne were beaten 2-1 by title hopefuls North London Raiders, for whom Jonny Dubiner and Ashley Davidson were on target. Second-placed Brady failed to make up any ground as they were beaten by the same score by South Mancunians. Neil Kochane scored for Brady, but strikes from David Hyman and Paul Rodin secured the win for Mancs.
