MMFL Tour of Israel 2014 review

Stuart Lustigman reflects on the Maccabi Masters Football League's latest Israel tour.

20 players and 12 supporters comprised the MMFL Israel Tour 2014. After an absence of three years, 17 players were making return visits, whereas three players and three supporters were joining the tour for the first time. Tour organiser Stuart Lustigman and Brian Cowan were the only ever-presents.

Alex Bourne (2) inspired the Maccabi Masters Rep Team to the shock of the round in the Peter Morrison Trophy as they cruised home 4-0 against MGBSFL first division Blizzard Storm.

Further strikes from Dan Hodes and Lloyd Becker completed a deserved win for the old boys.

Lions bowed out of the League Invitational Cup in the cruellest of manners when, having held out with 10 men for 40 minutes, they lost on spot kicks to an excellent Old Salvatorians team.

The hosts started the game on the front foot, Brad Lazarus setting the tone with a fizzing effort that flew inches over.

North London Raiders made it four out of four with a hard-fought victory over former champions Brady Maccabi A in Division One of the Maccabi Masters League.

A solitary effort from Tony Plaskow was all that separated the teams as NLR extended their lead at the summit.

There were goals galore in the Maccabi Masters League, with Scrabble Harmen leading the way with seven.

Stefan Simons (2) and Paul Stein (2) led the way in the 7-4 demolition of HMH. Jeremy Kornhauser, Jonny Summerfield and new boy Steven Gold completed the rout.

Neil Kochane, Lewis Cohen, Elliot Toffel and Jamie Beaumont were the marksmen for HMH.

Scott Warren finished the job on the new 4G at Kingsbury Town. Serge Cowan replied for Harmen.
