London Maccabi Vale win CVL opener

London Maccabi Vale made a flying start to the Chess Valley League season with a seven-wicket victory over Long Marston.

Early morning rain put the start time back at Rowley Lane in a match reduced to 40 overs-a-side.



Lederman targets push for the top

Neil Lederman believes London Maccabi Vale are capable of mounting another promotion challenge this season.

LMV have been promoted twice since joining the Chess Valley League and captain Lederman, 26, is confident his team will hit the ground running in the Division Four opener against Long Marston at Rowley Lane on Sunday.

London Maccabi Vale went down to a three-wicket defeat against Redbourn in their opening match of the new season.

Openers Danny Caro and Mark Landau (27) laid solid foundations on a slow wicket. Landau’s stay came to an end when he feathered one behind and Grant Reingold followed shortly.

South opted to bowl first, and althoguh Foresters got off to a steady start, Ben Darwent took his first wicket for the club.


Field to play against world champions

Daniel Field has been selected for the Blind England squad for the forthcoming one-day series against world champions India.

Field, who is 26 and a former winner of the Maccabi GB Sportsperson of the Year, will feature in a series of matches played over 20 and 40 overs, with the first game taking place at Leamington Cricket Club on May 24.


Wizard Wolfson made to feel right at home in Hong Kong

No sooner had Wolfson started to settle down to life in the Far East than did Hong Kong Maccabi FC flex their muscles in the January transfer window and move for the wing wizard.


Big Bash glory for Klinger

Michael Klinger helped Perth Scorchers win the Big Bash final following a thrilling four-wicket success over Sydney Sixers.

Opening-batsman Klinger smashed 33 runs from 37 balls, including four fours, in an opening partnership of 70 with Sean Marsh.

Perth went on to chase down a target of 148 from their 20 overs, winning off the final ball of the match.

Israeli umpire dies after being struck by ball

Tributes have been flooding in after former Israel cricket captain Hillel Oscar died after being struck by the ball whilst umpiring.

Standing at the non-striker's end, it is believed the ball ricocheted off the stumps after being hit on the head and he Oscar fell to the ground at the match played in Ashdod.

He was taken to a city hospital, but medics were unable to revive him.
