Super Lions Lod back to winning ways

Israel Night League favourites Super Lions Lod returned to winning ways with two comfortable victories over the weekend.

First up was Yefeth Nagavkar's youthful Modi'in Young Lions who bravely pushed Lions Lod all the way, eventually losing by 26 runs as Lod recovered from back-to-back defeats.

Weiner to captain Australian cricket team

Julien Weiner will captain Australia’s Open cricket squad at July’s Maccabiah Games.

Taking part in his fourth Games, Weiner will lead a 13-man delegation and is one of eight players selected from Maccabi AJAX CC. David Gelbart of Bentleigh CC has been named vice-captain.

2013 is all about the Maccabiah

It's virtually impossible to follow a year like 2012 on the sporting front, but quite clearly, the main focus in Jewish terms will be the 19th Maccabiah Games in Israel.

A number of my ones to watch in 2013 will be lining up for what is expected to be a star-studded event, kicking-off at Jerusalem’s Teddy Stadium in July.

Klinger honoured to be Gloucester skipper

Michael Klinger says he feels honoured after being appointed captain of Gloucestershire.

Klinger, 32, is relishing his first full season in the County Championship following a short spell at Worcestershire last year.

"It's always been a long-term ambition of mine to play a full season of county cricket," said Klinger.

"Joining as club captain is a huge honour for me.

Pride must take a back-seat now

There are no guarantees in life, and very few cast-iron guarantees in sport, but I’m struggling to understand just why the latest attempt to merge the three leading Jewish cricket teams in London failed to materialise.

The concept of a super-club has had its critics from the off, but these are now desperate times for the Jewish game and pride shouldn’t come into it.

Klinger joins Gloucestershire

Australian batsman Michael Klinger will return for a second stint in the County Championship after agreeing terms to play for Gloucestershire next season.

Klinger, 32, had been expected to represent his county at the 19th Maccabiah Games in Israel next July, but Gloucestershire director of cricket John Bracewell this week confirmed the acquisition of the talented top-order batsman.

Field on fire for England

Daniel Field helped England reach the semi-finals of the T20 Blind Cricket World Cup in Bangalore.

The wicket-keeper claimed stumpings in the matches against Nepal and Australia and he also impressed with the bat.

Batting at no. 10 in the semis against the much-fancied Pakistan team, Field was England’s second top run-scorer, hitting an unbeaten 21 off 15 balls in a nine-wicket defeat.
