Big Macc squeezed on funds

There are fears that next year's Jewish Olympics could be scaled down as a result of the credit crunch.

The latest financial crisis engulfing July's Maccabiah Games revolves around the failure of the organisers to raise sufficient sponsorship funds due to the global recession.

Cohen hits the jackpot

Alan Cohen achieved a unique double in winning the men's pairs at the Maccabi Lawn Bowls championships held at Bishopswood Bowls Club.

He won the trophy with eldest son James after beating Yitzhak Miller and Michael Daniels. It was the second time Alan has won this title, the first being with his youngest son Andrew five years ago.

Sharpstone strikes it lucky

Jake Sharpstone was the star of the third annual Maccabi GB tenpin bowling tournament in Dunstable.

The 14-year-old son of 2005 Maccabiah bowler Tony, bowled a career best 256 and walked away with the Freddie Loberman Memorial Trophy and the award for the highest handicap score. Sharpstone narrowly lost out on yet another trophy, eventually losing to Michael Loberman in the knockout tournament’s 3rd/4th place play off.
