Casspi set for France after snub

NBA star Omri Casspi has rejected the opportunity to move back to Israel with Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Casspi, who has spent the past two years in the USA with the Sacramento Kings, had hoped to secure a move home following the NBA lockout.

A 99-77 win over Spanish champions Caja Laboral at the Nokia Arena saw Maccabi take an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five-game quarter-final series.

Net gains for Ramla

Elitzur Ramla became the first-ever Israeli team to win the women's basketball EuroCup.

Having tied the first leg of the final 61-61 against Arras in Israel last week, Elitzur Ramla won the second leg 61-53 in France.

The French side led 13-5 after the first quarter but the Israelis stormed ahead to lead 33-22 in the second quarter and never looked back.
