Glushko, Peer and Sela ousted at Wimbledon

Julia Glushko and Shahar Peer bowed out in the first round of the Ladies Singles at Wimbledon on Tuesday.

Competing in the main draw for the first time, Glushko was ultimately outclassed by last year's runner-up Sabine Lisicki.

The Israeli went down 6-2, 6-1 in just under an hour on Centre Court.


Blatt seals Cleveland move

David Blatt has been appointed Chief Coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Blatt, 55, has made NBA history by becoming the first-ever person to be handed a chief coaching position without any prior experience in the NBA. He has signed a three-year deal and a one-year extension option that could be worth as much as $20 million with performance bonuses.


Good draw for Maccabi Tel Aviv

Maccabi Tel-Aviv will face minnows FC Santa Coloma or FC Banants in the second qualifying round of the 2014/15 Champions League.

The Israeli champions will be expected to overcome their Armenian opponents and book their place in the third qualifying round. The first leg is scheduled for July 15/16, with the return taking place on July 22/23.


South Manchester reach T20 final

South Manchester reached the final of the Greater Manchester Amateur League’s T20 following a six-wicket success over Wilmslow.

Dan Glicher had early success with the ball at Offerton, bringing the dangerous Kazi to the crease. The south bowlers were hit to all parts of the ground as he, along with Metzelaar, took advantage of some sloppy fielding and dropped catches.

David Blatt is locked in negotiations to join an NBA club after stepping down at Euroleague champions Maccabi Tel Aviv.
