Baker's girls ready for Spurs test

Hampstead Women FC caused one of the upsets of the season when they beat Haringey Borough in the FA London Senior Women’s Cup.

Their reward is a tie against Tottenham Hotspur January 17. The winners will meet Arsenal, the nine-time consecutive Premiership champions and European Cup winners.

Up against opponents from four divisions higher and only two divisions below the women’s Premier League, Hampstead won 2-1 in extra time.

Southgate Harmen A 3-3 Redbridge Jewish Care B

Southgate Harmen manager Dan Uzan believes his team showed championship quality after they twice came from behind to earn a 3-3 draw against Division One promotion rivals Redbridge Jewish Care B.

Having seen his newly-promoted team shoot to the top of the table just months after winning the Division Two title, Uzan was delighted with his team’s spirit and quality in a match they recovered a 0-2 and 1-3 deficit.

Goals from Greg Morris (2) and Sid Shaw helped Glenthorne United A strengthen their advantage at the top of Maccabi Masters Division One with a 3-1 win over North London Raiders. Jonny Adelman scored for Raiders.

Immanuel Ezekiel and Darren Coon exchanged goals as London Maccabi Lions A and South Mancunians drew.

Martin Schultz (4), Dean Poster and David Sawyer earned Brady Maccabi a 6-2 win over Clayhall. Bernie Hyatt and Eliot Mullish replied. Perry Somers, Spencer Brookner and Farah Moghim steered Pel City to victory over Temple Fortune.


Making his Marc

A hat-trick from Marc Conway helped MJSL pace-setters South Manchester Maccabi 2nd maintain a three-point lead with a 5-2 win over Sporting JLGB. Mike Basger and Richard Burton were the other marksmen. Josh Taylor and Jarod Cohen replied.

Goals from Eric Lewis (2), Stephen Rubin, Josh Rubin, Paul Harris and Rob Karp helped Haroldeans to a 7-0 demolition of Crumpsall.

Jonny Jacobs (2) and Anthony Bloch earned Republic of Mancunia a 3-2 win at Westdene. Daniel Amram and Moishe Hasid replied.


Super-sub James rules Britannia

A hat-trick from sub James Gershfield helped MSFL champions North West Neasden A come from two down to beat Britannia to a place in the second round of the Sunday FA Cup.

Lee Cash started the recovery with a brilliant finish after 82 minutes and Maccabiah star Levenfiche took the tie to extra time with a bullet header from a Jake Gottlieb free-kick.


Saachi: I'll do an Italian job for Israel

Arrigo Saachi, the former Italy manager, is in contention to become the next manager of Israel.

Saachi, who led Italy to the 1994 World Cup final and twice led AC Milan to the European Cup, was confirmed as a candidate by Israel FA chairman Avi Luzon.

Reports from Italy say that Sacchi has been viewing DVDs of Israel’s recent games and has told friends that taking the Israel job is a challenge that interests him because the team has the potential to reach a higher level. He has not worked since he was director of football at Real Madrid in 2005.


Maccabi Haifa beaten by Juventus

Maccabi Haifa were denied an unlikely point by the brilliance of Juventus keeper Gianluigi Buffon as they lost their third consecutive match in the Champions League group stage.

Played in torrential rain at the Stadio Del Alpi in Turin, Haifa went in search of their first goal and point against the Italian giants.

Missing captain Yaniv Katan and Eyal Golasa, few outside of Israel gave the Greens a chance. But they almost made a dream start when Georgian striker Vladimer Dvalishvili’s diving header was clawed away by Buffon in the opening minute.


Five-star Brady down HMH

Two goals from Daniel Lewis inspired Brady Blues Under 9s to a 5-2 victory over HMH Red.

Playing an away fixture at home, Brady went into the game without knowing too much about their opponents who proved strong with a couple of players catching the eye.

Joel Freedman gave Brady an early advantage, and then from a free kick awarded, Tom Rackind’s pile-river flew in to the top of the net.

HMH pulled one back on the stroke of half time via a well-executed free-kick.

Brady took their advantage into the second half but were soon pegged back as HMH scored an equaliser.


Stanton keeps Lions flying high

Goals from Adam Stolerman and Daniel Stanton pushed Lions back up to second in the HSCL Premier Division with a 2-1 win over in form Chipperfield Corinthians.

An incident packed afternoon ended with an excellent victory for the Lions over a decent, hard working Corinthians side.

With Baldock playing in the cup and Cuffley losing to Wormley, Lions needed this win to keep pace with Wormley who have set a frantic pace at the top of the table.


Kyte named Maccabi’s main man

David Kyte has been appointed as the head of the Organising Committees for both the European Maccabi Games to be held in Vienna In July 2011 and the 19th Maccabiah Games in Israel in 2013.

Kyte, 49, has been a member of the Maccabi movement since joining Maccabi Association London as a teenager in the early 1970’s and this summer he was the bearer of the Union Jack flag for Maccabi GB at the 18th Maccabiah.
