Neasden draw Oaks in the Morrison

Cup holders North West Neasden A will start the defence of the Peter Morrison Trophy at home to Oakwood on October 25.

The Jewish FA Cup winners have started the season with a win and a draw. On Sunday, they came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 against title rivals Redbridge Jewish Care A courtesy of goals from Scott Shindler and Lee Cash.

Hendon United A, last season’s losing finalists, also face first division opposition in the shape of newly promoted Red Sea.

Wingate progress in FA Cup

Maccabiah star Craig Ellis and Jake Furman helped Wingate & Finchley win an enthralling FA Cup replay against local rivals Northwood at Summers Lane.

The victory set up a second qualifying round tie at home to Aylesbury on September 26, where victory would equal the club record run.

It was Northwood who came out of the blocks first, and after early pressure, where they missed three good chances, the Blues finally found their feet and played their way back into the game.

Haifa well beaten in Champions League opener

Maccabi Haifa were beaten 3-0 by Bayern Munich in the first match of the Champions League group stage at Ramat Gan National Stadium.

Tuesday night's clash saw Bayern's experience, patient approach play and superior finishing pay dividends in a match where all the goals came in the second half.

North West Neasden captain Jonny Ellis was proud of his team’s never-say-die attitude as the defending JC MSFL champions came from two goals down to claim a vital draw at title rivals Redbridge A at Redbridge FC.

The clash of the titans saw the hosts make a dream start with summer signing Mitch Lassman and Steve Summers put them in a strong position at the break.

MAL take Sunday League title

MAL wrapped up the Maccabi Sunday League title with a 41-run victory against Casual Nomads on the main square at Shenley.

On a fabulous deck, Gav Lebens won the toss and chose to bat. MAL were quickly 10-2 as first Tali Rowe and then Jamie Breslaw fell cheaply to Simon Renshaw.

A partnership of 30 between Mark Landau and Yoav Lebens steadied things a little before Landau also fell to Renshaw, for 17.

Jamie Cole, the new manager of the JC MSFL Rep team, has told the JC what it means to be handed the reins from Jonathan Kestenbaum.

The North West Neasden joint-manager hopes to become only the second man to lead the Maccabi League to victory in the London Inter-League Cup.

As a boss, he has won all the major honours in Jewish football including the Peter Morrison Trophy, JC MSFL Premier Division, with two different clubs, JC Cyril Anekstein Cup and the Manchester Jewish Soccer League.

Defending champions Brady Maccabi A were forced to settle for a point against South Mancunians with Laurence Beck (2) and Nick Collins on target in a 3-3 draw in Division One. Paul Herszaft, Mark Powell and Jon Cohen netted for Manx.

Title rivals London Maccabi Lions A and Glenthorne United A drew 1-1. Nick Baum’s strike was cancelled out by Jason Levy.

Trevor Tucker, debutant Henry Charles and Martin Schultz were on target as Brady B overcame Ashlodge 3-2 in Division Two. Geoff Green and Glen Hyams replied.

Liverpool inspired by three-goal Benayoun

Israel captain Yossi Benayoun has been reflecting on his first Premier League hat-trick for Liverpool which inspired the Reds to a 4-0 victory over Burnley at Anfield.

Benayoun, 29, bounced back from Israel's World Cup qualifying woes to score his third hat-trick in a Liverpool shirt.

The midfielder opened the scoring in the first half after cutting inside Graham Alexander and sliding a shot across keeper Brian Jensen.

He was involved in the second as well. Following a swift counter-attack, Benayoun's shot proved too hot for Jensen, allowing Dirk Kuyt to slotted in the loose ball.
