Ram and Erlich reach last eight in Israel

Andy Ram and Jonathan Erlich reached the quarter final of the Israel Open with a 4-6, 6-1, 10-8 victory over Simon Stadler and Amir Hadad.

The pairing had not played together since Erlich injured his elbow last August.

Ram and Erlich agreed that Ram will continue playing part of the time with his new partner Max Mirnyi of Belarus and partly with Ram ahead of Israel's quarter-final Davis Cup tie at home to Russia in July.

Depleted BECC hold their own

A greatly depleted Belmont & Edgware 1st team played their first game of the season against Middlesex League Division One side Graces, after the previous week's opposition cancelled.

New captain Michael Blasebalk won the toss and decided to bat. On 39-1, opener Jeremy Freeman (30) was joined by Simon Durban (34) and together they moved the score to 77-2. Captain Blasebalk (12), Richie Weinburg (21) and Nick McCleod (12) all helped move the score on. Unfortunately new member Michael Ziff ran out of partners in the 38th over and finished on 12 not out, with the score on 156.

Salford edge past Sedgley

On an overcast, blustery day, Salford met Sedgley Park at Woodbank Park in Stockport for their second match of the season. After winning the toss, Salford elected to bowl on the newly laid strip that was holding a lot of moisture. Salford captain Daniel Paul opened the bowling with some accurate deliveries and, with Alex Woolfstein partnering him they set about bowling a tight line to restrict Sedgley openers Davidi Neumann and Michael Pfeffer.

Permenator destroys Edmonton

Friendly: LMV 2nd 200, Edmonton 155. LMV won by 45 runs

After some discussion about which Edmonton team we would be playing we ended up with the right result in both senses as we got our season off to a winning start against their Sunday 2nd team. Having been hit round the park for over 300 in our last visit it was good to be on the smaller pitch, against the right standard team!

Having won 75 per cent of tosses last season, normal service was resumed as captain Jonathan Lederman lost the toss and LMV were asked to bat.

MAL show great promise

MAL warmed up for the Maccabi League season with an encouraging draw against a determined Highgate side.

Skipper Gavriel Lebens won the toss and elected to bat on a hard-looking wicket, with a nice flat outfield.

Openers Mark Landau and Russ Corin, on a rare return from Israel, took the score to 37 before Corin tried one big shot too many and was caught at mid-on for a hard-hitting 27.

Titans to clash once more

Treble-chasing North West Neasden A will meet Hendon United A in this season’s Jewish FA Cup final at Wingate & Finchley on Sunday afternoon in a repeat of last season’s showdown.

Neasden came through a titanic Peter Morrison Trophy semi-final against first division North London Raiders A. Matt Sofier put them ahead after 70 minutes only for Raiders left-back James Fattal to level with the last kick of normal time. His curling effort from 30 yards nestled into the top corner, sparking wild celebrations.

JFS win Brent Schools Cup

JFS 1st XI won the Year 12-13 Brent Schools Football Cup after beating Copeland 5-2 in the final at Kingsbury Town. Braces from Oliver Henry and Aaron Salamon along with one from Ben Ellis earned the Sixth Formers silverware to cap off an excellent season.

JFS captain Sean Ladier said: "It was great day for us all to claim some silverware to end the season on a high over our opponents Copeland who were by no means push over’s.

Class tells as Hendon go through

First-half efforts from Ari Last, Paul Bentley and Saul Conway set up a quarter-final clash at Oakwood EDRS as Hendon United A beat FC Team A 3-1 in the JC Cyril Anekstein Cup. Mitch Young replied.

North West Neasden A moved to within a point of retaining the JC MSFL Premier Division crown after sharing six goals against nearest challengers Faithfold A.

Daniel Levenfiche, Lee Cash and Jonny Ellis netted for Neasden who staged a dramatic late comeback from 3-1 down. David Lederman, Richard Baum and an Ellis own goal accounted for the Faithfold goals.

It’s job done as proud Lions go up

Evergreen 0, London Lions 2

Goals from Ben Lauffer and Guy Morris ensured history was made as London Lions beat Evergreen 2-0 to secure promotion to the South Midlands League for the first time.

Victory at Evergreen in their final Herts Senior County League Premier Division match was achieved courtesy of a dogged and disciplined performance against opponents whose physical tactics failed to knock the Lions out of their stride. Knowing that only a win would suffice, the Lions drafted in brought in Aron Barnes and Alex Levack for Adam Lauffer and Eddie Manson.

Easy as one, two three for HMH heroes

HMH A won the Maccabi Primary Football League Under Nine’s Challenge Cup after beating HISHU A 3-1 courtesy of goals from Archie Allen, Alex Rose and Jamie Delane.

HISHU A clinched the Under 11 league and cup double after thumping Alyth Belsize B Red 6-1 in the final at Wingate & Finchley.

London Maccabi Lions Under 11s secured the West Herts League Division Three title with a game to spare after beating title rivals Little Gaddesden.
