Haifa beaten by 10-man Steaua

Steaua Bucharest dented Maccabi Haifa’s Europa League qualification hopes with a 4-2 victory in Group J.

Strikes from Leandro Tatu and Florin Costea put Steaua 2-0 up after 28 minutes but Haifa hit back with Eyal Meshumar and Yaniv Katan hauling them level five minutes before the break.

PSV end Hapoel's Europa League hopes

A late strike from Kevin Strootman ended Hapoel Tel Aviv’s qualification hopes in Group C following a six-goal thriller against leaders PSV Eindhoven in Holland.

The Dutch team came from two goals down at the break to book their place in the last 32 of the competition.

Natcho wonder strike defeats Spurs

A stunning strike from Israeli starlet Bebras Natcho steered Rubin Kazan to a famous victory over Spurs to leapfrog the Lilywhites in Group A of the Europa League.

Kazan had been kept out by Spurs keeper Carlo Cudicini but he could not stop Natcho's curling free-kick, conceded after Sebastien Bassong was caught in possession 10 minutes into the second half.

Maccabi second best against Stoke

Maccabi Tel Aviv’s Europa League’s hopes are all but over after they went down to a 2-1 defeat against Stoke City.

Second-half strikes from Dean Whitehead and substitute Peter Crouch put Stoke in cruise control before Maccabi Roberto Colautti pulled one back with the last kick of the game.

Woodford cry foul after MSFL suspension

Alex Aviram, the manager of Woodford Wanderers, has promised not to pull his club out of the Maccabi League this season following a row with league officials over a fine for a missing corner flag.

The team were suspended prior to last weekend’s Division One match against Temple Fortune A as a result of outstanding fines. The game was consequently awarded to Fortune.

Double gold for Warner

Adam Warner claimed two gold and a bronze at the British Gas ASA National Masters & Senior Age Group Championships in Sheffield.

Warner dominated the distance events, winning the 800m and 1,500m titles at the Ponds Forge International Sports Centre.

Representing the Borough of Harrow, he saw off the challenge of 201 competitors in the 800m and set a PB in the 1,500m.

Brits boost Israel at the Euros

Scrum half Eitan Humphreys helped Israel to its second Nations Cup success in the space of a week after the team ran in four tries to defeat Norway 22-11.

Humphreys, who retained his place in the side that had beaten Austria in Vienna, lined up alongside 2009 Maccabiah GB star Matt Frankfurt, who regained his starting place in the front row.
