True Blues under 11s reach football final

HMH Blue Under 11s reached the final of the National Cup after squeezing past HISHU White on penalties. The tie finished 2-2 with Zac Garbacz and Angus Taylor on target for the Highgate side.

Adam Ellis (2), Eli Wegryzn and Aaron Benjamin struck as HMH beat AC Whetstone 4-2 after extra time in round two of the Maccabi GB National Cup. David Goodman earned Highgate & Muswell Hill a 1-1 draw against St Albans in the Watford Friendly League Under 16 Yellow Division.

Jack Naftalin hit the winner as HMH Red beat HISHU White in the Maccabi GB Primary Football League Under 10 Division.

Harvey Kaye, Tom Cantor and Michael Filson helped South Manchester Maccabi 1st beat Manchester Maccabi 2nd 3-1 in the second round of the Peter Morrison Trophy.

London Lions’ Adam Stolerman, Dean Nyman and Guy Morris have been selected to play for the Herts FA rep team to play against the Reading League at Newbury FC tomorrow.

Two goals from Leor Sidle steered Manchester Maccabi 1st into the quarter-finals of the County Cup.

Portsmouth survival top of Avram Grant’s wish list

Points, not revenge will be the name of the game for Portsmouth boss Avram Grant ahead of Wednesday’s emotional return to Chelsea for a top against bottom match in the Premier League.

Grant was controversially sacked by Chelsea in May 2008, just three days after leading the club to its first Champions League final, where the Blues lost in Moscow in a penalty shoot-out to Manchester United.

The Israeli will be boosted not only by his 2-0 victory over Burnley at Fratton Park last weekend but also by the presence of his family who are staying in England for Chanukah.

Champions beaten in Maccabi Masters

The race for the Maccabi Masters League Division One title was blown wide open after leaders Glenthorne United A and defending champions Brady Maccabi A were beaten.

Glenthorne were beaten 2-1 by title hopefuls North London Raiders, for whom Jonny Dubiner and Ashley Davidson were on target. Second-placed Brady failed to make up any ground as they were beaten by the same score by South Mancunians. Neil Kochane scored for Brady, but strikes from David Hyman and Paul Rodin secured the win for Mancs.

Swine flu threatens Israelis' appearance in Australia Open

Two of Israel’s top male stars could miss the Australian Open because of swine flu.

Harel Levy and Dudi Sela were put in quarantine in an Austrian hospital after being diagnosed with the virus. Consequently, they were forced to withdraw from the Salzburg Challenger tournament.

The illness was a major blow to Levy who has climbed steadily up the ATP rankings from 220 in the summer to 119. He was looking finish the year in the top 110, thus guaranteeing qualification for the main draw of next month’s grand slam.

Hero Hershkorn ends Raiders’ cup dream

Premier Division South Manx edged into the third round of the Peter Morrison Trophy after beating JC MSFL Division Two leaders North London Raiders B 5-3. Rob Hershkorn (3), Darren Harris and Jonny Haik netted for the Manx. James Foley-Comer, Lewis Blitz and Elliot Espinoza replied.

Manx manager John Nitka commented: “We didn’t play well, especially on the 3G surface at Brunel. Credit to NLR B for not allowing us to play.”

Manchester Maccabi 10-0 win

Five goals from Greg Louca lifted Manchester Maccabi 3rd to fourth in the Joan Collins Premier Division as they crushed Westdene 2nd 10-0.

Jacob Richler-Kleiman (2), Ray Tamman, Sam Modlin and an own goal completed the rout.
Oakhill Lions climbed away from the foot of the table after thumping rock bottom Crumpsall 7-0. Jon Sacker (2), Jake Gilbert (2), Ben Horn (2) and Alex Kay were the marksmen.

Israel looks to diaspora to boost Olympic bid

Israel will select a maximum of five athletes for the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, although the secretary-general of the Olympic Committee of Israel admits that there is “no hope” of the country gaining a medal.

The squad, which flies out to Canada in preparation for the games in early February, will include two figure skaters in the singles competition and a skier, whilst there could also be a involvement in the figure skating pairs if they make the qualification standard.

Four goals from Maccabiah star James Gershfield booked North West Neasden A’s place in the last 16 of the Sunday FA Cup as they beat Hammer 4-1.

With strikers Lee Cash and Daniel Levenfiche missing, Wingate & Finchley marksman Gershfield scored twice in each half to seal a third round meeting at home to Bungay Town on Sunday.

NWN joint-manager Daniel Fox said: “We are representing Jewish football and our proud of our achievement as the only Jewish team to get to the last 16 in the Sunday FA Cup this season.

Salita: Gone in 76 seconds

Dmitriy Salita has vowed to bounce back from Saturday’s WBA light-welterweight title humbling against holder Amir Khan.

The Brooklyn-based fighter was blown away by a devastating flurry of punches from Khan who knocked him down three times in the first round. The first was a lightning left-right combination within 15 seconds of the opening bell. The fight, at Newcastle’s Metro Radio Arena, was stopped after just 76 seconds.
