Richard Salmon and Laurence Judah were among the scorers as FC Team claimed victory in their first outing of 2010 with a 3-1 success over Kentish Town in the Middlesex County League Division One.

Salmon opened the scoring from a Jonny Breger corner. Town levelled before Team pressed on with Judah clinching the points with a penalty.

Manager Mitch Young said: “After eight weeks off, this was about getting three points, and we did that. However I was unhappy with the fitness of certain players, especially in midfield. This has to improve.”

Israel wins ICC award

The Israel Cricket Assov ciation has won the Spirit of Cricket Award at the Pepsi ICC Development Programme Annual Awards.

The ICA’s Cross Border Cricket Programme has introduced cricket as a means of bringing together Jewish and Bedouin children in the Negev Desert to promote co-existence and tolerance amongst those caught up in the Israel-Arab conflict.

ICA chairman Stanley Perlman said: “We are so proud of our achievement. We want to show the world how Jewish and Bedouins get on through the medium of cricket. Be positive think positive and things will happen.”

Goodman’s silver lining

Richard Goodman took silver in the Under 20 race at the Elgoibar International cross-country meeting in the Basque region of northern Spain.

The Maccabiah double gold medallist was narrowly out-sprinted by UK teammate Jonathan Hay in a thrilling finish. The pair had broken away from a field that included teams from Spain, France and Italy.

Brady back at the summit

Brady Maccabi A returned to the top Maccabi Masters League Division One after thumping London Maccabi Lions A 8-0. Nick Collins (2), Jon Cohen (2), David Rose (2), Laurence Beck and Mark Wagman were the marksmen.

Ollie Olsen and Mark Powell earned South Manx a 2-2 draw against Faithfold. Goals from Mark Kingston (2) and Richard Fox helped EDRS Stonegrove maintain their Division two title charge with a 3-2 win over Glenthorne United B. Laurence Lambert and Adam Lennard replied.

Norstar beat Temple Fortune 3-1 with goals from Steve Feiger, David Coburn and Richard Kleiner.

Joshua Newman trampoline win

Joshua Newman won the Under 13 Eastern Region Trampoline Grading Competition at Brentwood school sports centre.

A pupil at Clore Tikva, Newman, 11, performed a top score of 8.6 in the compulsory routine and equally impressive 8.3 in the voluntary routine.

He finished first by some distance with an impressive total of 46.2.

Newman (inset) was the only participant to pass the grade on the day. This will enable him to compete at a higher level in future.

De Ridder injured in Hapoel Tel Aviv debut

Daniel De Ridder lasted just 16 minutes in his Hapoel Tel Aviv debut, a goalless draw against defending champions Maccabi Haifa on Monday.

Having joined on loan from Wigan last week, De Ridder came off the bench in the 66th minute at Kiryat Eliezer but had to be substituted eight minutes from time, needing five stitches after a clash of heads with Maccabi’s John Culma.

De Ridder expects to be fit for the weekend game against Maccabi Netanya.

Roger Bruck takes gold in Indoor Pentathlon

Roger Bruck took gold in the British Masters Indoor Pentathlon Championships at Picketts Lock.

Competing in the first major Indoor Athletics meeting of the season, Bruck, representing the Southern Counties, came first in the seven-hour competition with a score of just under 3,000 points.

Following a reasonable start in the 60 metres hurdles, he put in a disappointing long jump, an event where he has won the British Masters title on three occasions. A much-improved performance in the shot put, was followed by a personal best in the high jump.

Lions still contenders for MSFL title

LONDON MACCABI LIONS A 3-1 HENDON UNITED A

Lions showed they are still contenders for the Premier Division title after a rusty-looking Hendon were put to the sword by Max Fieldgrass, Yoav Lebens and Mike Pearson.

An even opening half-hour saw Avidan Last, alone up front, shoot just wide for Hendon whilst Avi Schwarz’s curling shot was palmed away by Danny Berliner at the other end, before the Lions took the lead just before half-time. Fieldgrass received a through ball from Sam Arghebant and clipped past Berliner at his near post.

Faithfold cling to top spot in MSFL

Faithfold A came from 3-1 down to remain joint top of the Premier Division after beating basement battlers Glenthorne United A 5-3. Paul Lenchner (2), Daryl Phillips, James Taylor and Alex Taylor were the scorers for Faithfold.

Strikes from Nick Astaire, David Dinkin and Jonathan Green helped London Maccabi Lions B’s beat Hendon United B 3-1.

Neasden blame injury for poor cup performance

North West Neasden A boss Jamie Cole blamed poor fitness for a defeat which dashed their hopes of becoming the first Maccabi League team to win five cups in a season.

Last season’s double winners suffered their first defeat of the campaign as they were eliminated from the London Challenge Cup, losing 3-1 to Vista in the third round. Lee Cash scored for Neasden.

Cole said: “Even though we lacked in terms of fitness due to a lack of games, we still had the chances.
