Sam Waley-Cohen faces becoming the pantomime villain when he tries to deny the legendary Kauto Star a record fifth victory in the King George VI Chase on Boxing Day.

Waley-Cohen, who won at Kempton onboard Long Run last year, is hoping to continue his remarkable run of success after landing the Cheltenham Gold Cup last March.

Nimrod Mashiah still fears for his place at the London Olympics- despite winning bronze at the World Windsurfing Championship in Perth.

Mashiah led for most of the tournament but only just managed to pick up a place on the podium.

But despite gaining a third straight top-three finish, Mashiah is still wary of being beaten to a place in the Israeli Olympic team by rival Shahar Zuberi.

Eli Guttman looks set to be named as the new manager of Israel after agreeing an 18-month deal to replace Frenchman Luis Fernandez.

Guttman, who is expected to earn less than half of Fernandez' $480,000 a year salary, recently recovered from a serious heart attack.

Leeds Maccabi 2nd slumped to a tenth consecutive league defeat after suffering a 5-1 thrashing at Osmondthorpe.

Despite heading into the break level at 1-1 thanks to Steve Feldman’s strike, Maccabi failed to compete in a one-sided second half.

Feldman, 49, was the only Leeds player to take his chance as the visitors frittered away a whole host of opportunities.

FC Team La Manga tour diary

FC Team have returned home from another successful trip to La Manga in Spain.

The club played three games in four days - winning one and losing two.

They stepped straight off the plane for their first game on Thursday night, an 8.30pm kick-off at Muleno Stadium against Muleno CF.

Super SPEC FC go third

Promotion-chasing SPEC FC had far to much on the day with goals from Ricky Lawrence, Jack Bookatz, Robert Murray, Craig Cohen and JC star man Dan Cohen taking them past Jewventus.

As the snow fell heavily over the Cinderella Hairena, SPEC ensured they ended the calendar year in true seasonal style with a Christmas cracker.
