JC MSFL Matchday 16 review

The entire JC MSFL Matchday 16 was abandoned with the capital under snow. Matches in the Peter Morrison Trophy, JC Cyril Anekstein Cup and Maccabi League will carry forward into the new year. The season now undertakes a two-week winter break and will restart on January 9.

The belief is back, says Sidle

Ryan Sidle, assistant-manager of Sporting JLGB, believes that the team has overcome the fear factor after climbing to sixth in the Joan Collins Premier Division following a hard fought win over Oakhill Lions.

A goal from Sam Goodman earned JLGB their fourth consecutive victory in the league's only game to beat the weather.

Sidle, standing in for manager Gavin Sharpe, said: "We are on a good run with four consecutive wins against sides we would consider tough games. Now we're in a position where we go into games believing that we can win."

Israeli Olympics committee perfectly formed

The Olympic Committee of Israel (OCI) has published tough qualification criteria for the 2012 Olympics and is confident of bringing home several medals from London.

OCI Secretary General Efraim Zinger said: "We are going to England to win medals and, in order to win, you need tough criteria so you can concentrate limited resources on the more promising medal prospects. The criteria are the same as for Beijing and we expect about 40 Israel sportswomen and men to travel to London."

Gai Assulin joins Manchester City

A fifth Israeli has joined the Premier League after Manchester City signed Gai Assulin on a two-and-a-half-year deal.

Released by Barcelona last summer, Assulin agreed the deal after convincing City officials that he has returned to fitness following a knee injury.

"I heard a lot about City and as soon as I saw the club I wanted to stay," said Assulin.

The attacking midfielder, dubbed the next Lionel Messi, holds the record as the youngest ever player to represent Israel at 16.

Israel suffers double Davis Cup blow

Israel's chances of returning to the Davis Cup World Group took a major hit this week when Harel Levy and Noam Okun announced their retirement from the professional tennis circuit. Both players are aged 32 and are former top 100 stars.

Levy said: "The decision has been taken and I will not carry on playing after March."

Pearson can take Faithfold to another level

Zuriel Solomon, the Faithfold A manager, believes that the signing of former Maccabi League Player of the Year Mike Pearson will boost the team's challenge for silverware.

The Superhoops beat several other Premier Division rivals to the star striker who fired a debut goal in the 2-1 win over North West Neasden B. David Lederman claimed the other.

Solomon said: "Pearson was a real handful and gives us a different dimension. He looked great in green and white."

Danny Daggers pulled one back for Neasden but Faithfold held firm to climb to third in the table.

FC Team win

Mitch Young, the FC Team manager, is aiming for a second consecutive London FA Junior Cup final appearance following the 6-1 demolition of North Action Town.

Striker Richard Salmon capped an excellent performance with a goal as Team booked their place in the quarter-finals.

Young said: "I was very pleased with our attacking football. It was a good win and a great way to finish the year.

"We are hoping to get to another cup final and we will look forward to the next round.

"We now have a break until January and hopefully this will give my injured players a chance to recover."

Time up for Montana B

Montana United B have become the Maccabi League's second team to fold this season.

Managed by Nick Goodmaker, Montana had failed to win their last five league matches in Division Two.

A statement from the club read: "It is not a decision that myself and chairman Raymond Harrod have taken lightly. We have sought a solution for a number of weeks now and after fielding a side of only nine players a few weeks back have decided there is no other alternative.

Netanya surrenders as England march on

England FC maintained their grip at the top of the JC Olim League after beating Netanya 5-1.

A shock looked on the cards in the early stages as Netanya forged ahead from the penalty spot.

England hit back in the second half with quickfire strikes from Yaron Galinsky and a long-range effort from Brad Bernstein putting them ahead. Jonny Binke, the former London Maccabi Lions striker, extended the lead with a 25-yard free kick.

Late strikes from Yarden Bar Ness and captain Yoni Sidi clinched the points.

Jerusalem and Jaffa City shared the points following a four-goal thriller.

Majestic Mancs halt Brady

South Mancs A upset the form book with a 4-3 win over title favourites Brady Maccabi A in the Maccabi Masters League Division One.

Brady's goals came from David Rose, Mark Wagman (pen) and an own goal, but Joel Nathan (2), Paul Herszaft and Ilan Cohen consigned the Edgware club to their first defeat of the season.

Glenthorne United A thumped Hendon Harriers 4-1 with goals from Jason Levy (2), Greg Morris and Paul van Gelder. Glenthorne old boy Fara Moghim grabbed a consolation for the Harriers.
