Three cheers for Oxford

It was an evening of champagne and celebration for Oxford students Sam Winter-Levy, Ben Myers and Zoe De Toledo after the rowing teams they coxed for won sound victories over Cambridge in the annual boat race.

Winter-Levy, at 18 the youngest cox for the Oxford-Cambridge race in a century, helped his team of Dark Blues achieve a 76th win over their rivals.

There was an intriguing father-and-son contest in the Henry Swerner MMFL Cup quarter-final involving Faithfold and Norstar. Stuart Lustigman, who at 66 is the oldest player in the league, was up against eldest son, Adam. Goals from Paul Gold, Mitch Klein, Jason Levy, Joel Nathan, Jason Rich, Jonny Mack and Paul Chilton helped Faithfold come from behind to triumph 7-2.

London Maccabi Lions Under 16s experienced the highs and lows of the game as they clinched one piece of silverware but missed out on another.

In an action-packed seven days, the Lions were crowned champions of the Watford Friendly League White division but missed out on a place in the final of the League Cup.

Manager David Norman has been tracking the progress of the youngsters during the season and believes that Smouha and Mannie have the ability to step up into senior football.

Net gains for Ramla

Elitzur Ramla became the first-ever Israeli team to win the women's basketball EuroCup.

Having tied the first leg of the final 61-61 against Arras in Israel last week, Elitzur Ramla won the second leg 61-53 in France.

The French side led 13-5 after the first quarter but the Israelis stormed ahead to lead 33-22 in the second quarter and never looked back.

Israel debut

Great Britain Maccabiah star Matt Franks has been called into Israel's squad for this month's Nations Cup match against Austria in Netanya.

Franks, a prop, will be starting his first match for Israel since facing Cyprus in September 2009.

Israel coach Raanan Penn had wanted to give fellow GB Maccabiah player and Nottingham centre Guy Tyler his first cap, but the youngster is injured.

Kipkoech gets lucky

Kenya's Raymond Kipkoech claimed victory in a time of 2:26:44 in the Jerusalem marathon.

Kipkoech, 34, took advantage of a bizarre incident when race leaders Mutai Kopkorir and Kiman Njorage took a wrong turn and ended up crossing the finish line of the half-marathon in a different location.
