LMV 2A edged out by West Harrow

By Danny Caro, July 20, 2010

London Maccabi Vale 3rd XI made its first appearance of the season but a team combining youth and experience were edged out by one wicket by West Harrow.

No matter what level you play your cricket, as long as the opposition are well-matched you can have a great contest; which is what we had on Sunday. A match that went the full 80 overs and finished just after half past eight was played in an excellent spirit on both sides and hopefully gave LMV's youngsters valuable experience of how to deal with pressure.

Sager steers BESCC home

By Danny Caro, July 20, 2010

A captain’s innings from Joel Sager helped BESCC secure their second victory after beating Barnet Synagogue in the latest Inter-Synagogue friendly.

Two early wickets from Phil Lassman soon had Barnet on the back foot. Tight spells from Jamie Kaye and Freedman kept Barnet in check and after two well executed run-outs, Barnet were dismissed for 113.

BESCC overcame the early losses of Freedman and Turek. Wobbling at 18-3, Sager carried his bat, despite not having played since last August, to make 47 not out as BESCC eased home with four overs to spare.

A man of the match display from Benjamin Lederman helped London Maccabi Vale 2nds earn a credible draw against Wembley at Vale Farm.

Playing in a timed match for the first time this season, LMV had the better of the result, but were unable to break through the determined defence of the experienced tail end of Wembley.

David Freedman and Lederman opened the batting for the third week in a row. Freedman was undone by an excellent in-swinger early on. Jeremy Harris came in and hit a couple of boundaries but was completely undone by another excellent swinging delivery.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, Israel started their innings steadily but lost wickets, reaching 51 when the danger-man Eshkol Solomon was the fourth wicket down in the 14th over. This brought Herschel Gutman to the crease and he played what was very much a captain’s innings.
