Jordan Marks (2) and Charlie Cohen earned London Maccabi Lions a 3-1 win over Sun Postal in the Watford Friendly League Under 18 Blue Division.

Adam Arnold (4), Michael Kenley and Jamie Kutner found the net as Lions Under 16s thumped Panathinaikos 6-3. Lions Under 14s ran out 3-2 winners over St. Albans Rangers with Jack Davis (2) and Ethan Herman the goal men.


Oldham Athletic chair looks to make cuts

Simon Corney, the chairman of Oldham Athletic, is struggling to cut down the size of his squad because players are reluctant to leave.

Corney this week confirmed that the club have lost £1.5m over the past 12 months. With 34 professionals on their books, Corney has been frustrated as moves to decrease numbers have stalled despite several players being made available for transfer.

Corney said four players have recently rejected moves to clubs either in League Two or the Blue Square Bet Premier. He said: "We have been trying to get players out but they don't want to go.


Rampant Raiders shoot down leaders

Premier Division leaders Redbridge Jewish Care A suffered their first defeat of the season as they were beaten 4-0 by North London Raiders A. Jacob Gold (2), Adam Joselyn and supersub Igal Yahya completed the rout.

Joint-manager Adam Fegan said: "Week by week we are improving. We continued to play our football and some excellent finishing swung the game in our favour."


Olim league kicks off in Tel Aviv

The first JC Olim League, created by the Olim communities around Israel, comprises nine teams with Jewish footballers from all over the globe represented.

This summer saw three new teams enter the league and the pre-season hype and uncertainty ended as the league kicked off on Saturday night in Tel Aviv and Ashdod.


South clip Falcons

South Manchester took a point from Manchester Falcons, the league leaders who had previously swept all before them, scoring 18 goals in four games.

The first half was a rugged affair with the best chance falling to Simon Davies who headed over when unmarked from a corner.

South had caused themselves problems losing the ball from a couple of their own set pieces but the back four stood firm.

The second half saw more attacking from both teams and only a fantastic defensive header from man of the match Darren Brewer kept South level.


Republic don't fear anyone, says Bloch

Republic of Mancunia are determined to fire the title race wide open when they meet championship rivals Manchester Maccabi 3rd.

Republic sit third in the league, level on points with second place Maccabi and leaders South Manchester after an impressive run of form.

And after two Moishe Hasid goals gave them a 2-0 win at Oakhill Lions, Republic are now aiming to extend their unbeaten run with victory over Maccabi.

"We're bang in form at the moment and we just want to keep on playing and winning," said Republic star Anthony Bloch.


Macleod is player of season

Nick Macleod is Belmont & Edgware's player of the season. Club captain Ashley Connick described his teammate as being "revitalised since giving up the gloves".

Macleod achievement were recognised at the club's first-ever end-of-season dinner and awards evening, attended by 40 of the club's members and their partners in Finchley,.

A new award for the Most Improved Player, presented for the first time this season, was dedicated to former BECC player Richard Ableson, who died in December 2008. The award was won by Jack Mendel.


Benson hits jackpot for runaway Fortune

Man of the moment Rob Benson scored four times to help high-flying Fortune flatten Hendon B in this JC MSFL Division Two top of the table clash.

Benson, however, was quick to heap the praise on 17-year-old winger Dave Gance, who made four of his side's eight goals, as well as scoring two himself.

Benson, who has now bagged nine league goals this term, said: "I always feel confident when I'm given good service. Young Dave has been a revelation so far this season."


Shahar Peer nears world tennis elite

Shahar Peer has moved up to a career high of 13 in the latest WTA rankings.

Peer climbed five places after reaching the semi-finals of the China Open in Beijing where she lost 5-7, 2-6 to world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark. Peer, 23, reached 14 earlier this year and believes that it is a matter of time before she achieves her target of reaching the word's top 10.


Cricket's 20:20 vision

Jewish cricket in Manchester is set to undergo a huge transformation following the announcement of a new Twenty20 competition.

The improved format will see the Northern Sunday League scrapped with a T20 tournament set to run for around eight weeks from the middle of May. The demise of the 40-over game comes just six months after the Maccabi Sunday League collapsed in London.

NJCL secretary Zevi Saunders believes the move will trigger fresh interest in the sport and is confident that the new set-up will be a huge success.
