The hard work has paid dividends, says Rosenfeld

Josh Rosenfeld, the manager of Brady Maccabi A, believes that Sunday’s JC Cyril Anekstein Cup semi-final victory over Brixton is just reward for two years of hard work both on and off the pitch.

Second-half strikes from Josh Gordon and Josh Hershman set up a cup final against Premier Division rivals Hendon United Sports Club A at Wingate & Finchley on April 22.


Net gains for Vale

London Maccabi Vale CC have started building work on new outdoor nets at Rowley Lane.

The nets, which will be officially opened on May 17, are the culmination of more than three years of planning.

They will provide cricketers with the opportunity to hone their skills and enhance the facilities on offer at London Maccabi in Rowley Lane in Barnet.

Avram Grant was pelted with cigarette lighters after failing to get his first win in his second game in charge of Partizan Belgrade.

The former Chelsea manager was targeted by his own supporters following the goalless draw against Sloboda Sevojno.

Farmar key to Israel success

Avner Koppel, the Israel Basketball Commissioner, will travel to America to persuade NBA star Jordan Farmar to represent Israel in this summer's Eurobasket qualifiers.

Koppel will talk to the New Jersey Nets point guard after watching Monday night's clash between the NBA's two Jewish stars as the Nets play Omri Casspi's Cleveland Cavaliers.


Schwartz fails to impress

American-born Israeli Jillian Schwartz placed 11th in the pole vault at the European Indoor Championships in Istanbul, recording a height of 4.45.

Roger Bruck, 72, won gold medals in three events at the Southern Counties Veterans Championships at Lea Valley indoor stadium.


Flying start for Kurrant

Jonathan Kurrant made a successful start as an England player in the international double-header against Switzerland.

Kurrant, who is 23 and from Abridge, won his first cap in a 3-1 victory in Hereford. This was followed by a 4-1 win 24 hours later.

London Lions produced another battling performance to gain an excellent point against Harpenden Town in a 0-0 draw at Broxbourne Borough FC.

This was not your bog standard boring 0-0 draw. This was a game full of incident, great saves, heroic defending and, at times, sublime football.
