Team GB names Maccabiah water polo squad

Team GB will take a 12-man Water Polo squad to compete at this summer’s 19th Maccabiah Games.

The side’s talent pool is overflowing, featuring some of the best players in the country, and managing to blend youth with experience. Included in the squad are two Maccabiah debutants, Josh Brown and Jared Baker, who both play at a top level in the British National Water Polo League.

Barnett climbs rankings

Anna Barnett, 14, rose to ninth in the UK under-15 discus rankings with a winning throw of 28.28m at the UK Youth Development League at Bromley.

Jessica Hurley, 13, achieved an 800m personal best of 2:27.6 in placing third in the UK Youth Development League at Basildon.

Warner celebrates win double

Adam Warner successfully defended his 1,500m title at the London Region Championships.

Warner, who will represent Team GB in his first Maccabiah Games in July, also won the 400m freestyle race.

He said: "I'm really pleased with how I swam at the weekend. I hope my good times will put me in a fast heat for the Maccabiah.

Wimbledon woe for Israel

Israel’s top two players – Shahar Peer and Dudi Sela - will need to qualify for the main draw at this year’s Wimbledon grand slam after sliding down the rankings.

A series of poor performances from Peer (104) and Sela (107) means that there will be no Israeli players in the main Singles draw.

Ben Haim joins Toronto

QPR defender Tal Ben Haim has joined MLS outfit Toronto FC.

The Israeli was signed by Harry Redknapp on a short-term contract in January and will be a free agent at the end of a season that has seen Rangers relegated to the Championship.

The move sees Ben Haim link up with Ryan Nelsen, the Toronto manager, who left Rangers earlier in the season.

Two leading MSFL clubs agreed to a merger this week in a bid to bring success to their loyal fans.

Norstar and North London Raiders – fierce rivals in previous seasons – will now compete as Norstar London Raiders under the Chairmanship of Jonny Adelman.

End of the road for UJIA

The JC MSFL has lost a second team after it was confirmed that UJIA has withdrawn from the league.

The U's have struggled in season 2012/13, claiming just one win out of 20 matches in Division One this season, and they follow Jewventus who dropped out of the Maccabi League a couple of months ago.
