Despite the Shabbat downpour the teams turned up on Sunday morning to a puddle-less pitch and, believe it or not, bright Sunday morning sunshine.

The Stones were up against Watford Red, a team they have beaten before but who knocked The Stones out the cup.

Unfortunately, when the game kicked off it showed that Stonegrove hadn't got out of bed yet and Watford took an early lead.

In the first half The Stones were second to every ball and paid the price when Watford knocked another couple in.

Late comeback by EDRS Stonegrove

A late comeback by EDRS Stonegrove gave them a point in a 3-3 draw with South Mancunians in Division One. Nick Tromans, David Hyman and Darren Coon had put Mancs in the driving seat, and despite a Paul Chilton goal, EDRS were still 3-1 behind with just five minutes remaining. But Phil Silver gave EDRS a lifeline, and the comeback was completed with a last-minute own goal.

In Division 2, Jon Bolle notched four goals as Glenthorne United B recorded a 6-0 demolition of Brady Maccabi B. Gary Swerner and Jon Diamond also found the net.

On the expansive green of West Hendon Playing Fields, FC Team B yet again produced a performance of grit, determination and skill to see off a spirited Hendon C side and maintain their winning streak, which has now stretched to eight league wins in a row.

Despite the downpour of rain throughout the weekend, the pitches in Hendon held up extremely well and allowed an entertaining game of football to take place.

Hammers two good for Bafana

Upon arriving at West Hendon, both teams were amazed to see a lake had formed outside the changing rooms and feared that yet another postponement would ensue. However, to everyone's surprise, the pitch was in near perfect condition and Hendon had a rare chance to play some football on a Sunday morning.

The game started briskly with Hendon creating the better of the chances and the impressive Avidan Last was denied three times in the first half hour with only the woodwork denying Saul Conway.

Thornes hit Knights for six

A hat-trick from Fabio Rivieccio eased Premier Division Glenthorne United A into the third round of the Peter Morrison Trophy as they thrashed Division Four new boys East London Knights in the Essex derby at Wanstead Flats.

The Thornes dominated from start to finish as they produced a professional display and it took just three minutes to take the lead. Home striker Jamie Shaw was brought down by Marc Pollack in the area. He dusted himself down before confidently rifling home from 12 yards.

Wingate bow out of FA Trophy

Wingate & Finchley's Wembley dream ended for this season as they were beaten by Southern Premier table-toppers Farnborough.

The home side took the lead with their very first attack of the game in only the second minute. An outswinging cross was beautifully delivered from the left wing, and it found the head of the unmarked Michael Charles who headed neatly into the bottom left corner from 10 yards.
The Blues were not fazed by this and the game continued fairly evenly.

£250k deal boosts GB athletes

Maccabi GB preparations for next summer’s 18th Maccabiah Games have been boosted by a partnership with Village Hotels worth in the region of £250,000.

The agreement will see Village Hotels offering complimentary membership of their state-of-the-art fitness clubs to each member of Team GB taking part in the Maccabiah in Israel in July 2009.

The squad selected is expected to be the largest ever to represent Maccabi GB in Israel with numbers exceeding 500.

Dutch club prepares Sahar swoop

FC Utrecht are hopeful of signing Ben Sahar in the new year.
The striker, 21, watched the team beat NEC Nijmegen 2-1 last weekend.

Technical director Piet Buter said: “Sahar is a player who fits into the category we are looking for. We know Sahar’s history and have watched DVDs of him in action. He is an interesting player to us.
“We will go and see him play again and if he makes a good impression, we will see what is possible.”
