Lipsky hits top form

Scott Lipsky was the surprise package at the French Open after excelling in both doubles' competitions at Roland Garros.

New Yorker Lipsky, 29, teamed up with Casey Dellacqua to reach the semi-finals of the mixed doubles.

Lipsky and Rajeev Ram were eliminated at the quarter-final stage of the men's doubles. They bowed out in three sets against fourth seeds Michael Llodra and Henad Zimonjic

Double joy for Israel

Israel's Arik Ze'evi and Neta Rivkin have boosted their hopes of participating in next year's Olympic Games in London.

Ze'evi, 34, took gold at judo's Moscow Grand Slam with a victory in the under-100kg competition.

There was controversy in the quarter-finals when, after defeating Ramadan Darwesh, the Egyptian refused to shake Ze'evi's hand.

Claire Bloom has qualified for the Great Britain age group team (45-49) after finishing third at the World Sprint Championship Beijing qualifier at Dorney Lake, Eton.

Bloom, who works at David Lloyd Chigwell, took up sprint triathlon 18 months ago and completed her first full season last year.

TEN PIN BOWLING Michael Loberman was the star turn at the Maccabi GB Tenpin Bowling tournament.

He exacted revenge over 2010 winner Gary Ellis over two games in the final of the scratch division at the Airport Bowl, in Harlington.

LMV Colts complete win treble

LMV won their third game in a row with a 19-run win over Holtwhites Trinibis.

LMV lost the toss and were asked to bat first. Joseph scored 13 runs before retiring, but the star of the innings was again Zac Summerfield. He scored 33 not out including six boundaries to bring his aggregate run total for the season to 83 in only four innings.

Topperman heroics in vain for South Manchester

Steve Glicher was making no excuses after his South Manchester side were crushed by high-flying Knight Riders in the Greater Manchester Amateur Cricket League, losing by 172 wickets despite the heroics of bowler Avrom Topperman who finished with figures of 8-26.

Knight Riders were first in to bat and were soon on top with South Manchester struggling to keep the score down.

Allweis leads the way for Maccabi

Allweis in rampant mood. Alex Goodman (20) kept the scoreboard ticking for Salford but some clever bowling from Maccabi skipper Ray Tammam (3-29) left them in disarray.

The rain-affected match saw Salford pass the 100-mark with Elliot Koffman (24), Elliot Shires (20) and captain Josh Henry chancing their arm.
