Glenthorne B close in on Masters title

MASTERS Glenthorne United B edged a step closer to the Maccabi Masters League Division Two title with a 2-1 win over EDRS Stonegrove

A late free-kick from Adam Hart proved decisive in a game where they had forged ahead through an own goal. Mark Kingston equalised for EDRS.

The result means Glenthorne now require two points from their remaining two games to be assured of the championship.


Lions U18s win League Cup

London Maccabi Lions won their first piece of silverware of the season with a 2-0 victory over Limassol at Harvester FC.

Strikes from Josh Bloom and Benji Weinberger saw the boys from Rowley Lane run out deserved winners with victory in the Watford Friendly League Under 18 League Cup final.

Heartbreak for Bloom at Eilat triathlon

Claire Bloom, 48, finished eighth in the 45-49 year age group at the ETU European Age Group Sprint Triathlon Championships in Eilat.

Bloom, 48, came home in fourth place in the swimming event in a time of 13:42. She also impressed in the run, finishing ahead of pre-race favourite Anke Lakies of Germany.


Avram helps Partizan win Serbian title

Avram Grant claimed his first trophy since leaving Israel after steering Partizan Belgrade to the Super League title in Serbia.

A 4-0 victory over Borac Cacak confirmed Partizan as champions for the fifth consecutive season.


Djukic leaves GB for Israel

Israel’s Handball Association has announced that Britain’s coach Dragan Djukic will take over their national team after this summer’s Olympic Games.

Djukic, who contract expires after the Games, has been in charge of the British team since 2009. He had previously been linked with a move to Russia.


Euro gold for Zeevi

Arik Zeevi won gold in the 100kg category at the European Judo Championships in Chelyabinsk, Russia.

Zeevi, 35, claimed his fourth victory in the competition and although he had not been considered an Olympic medal contender for London, this performance moves him up to seventh in the world rankings. The Israeli won bronze at the Athens Olympics in 2004.


Klinger relishing new test
