Brave Sela goes down fighting at Wimbledon

Israel's involvement in the singles competition at Wimbledon ended in near-darkness on Wednesday evening as wild card Dudi Sela was beaten by 15th seed Gilles Simon of France.

For Sela, it was the end of a brilliant run that had seen him win 16 consecutive matches. He went down after putting on a brave and battling performance.

Franks heroics in vain for Maccabi

Ray Tammam, captain of Manchester Maccabi, praised bowler Daniel Franks following his team's defeat against leaders Ashton Allstars in the Greater Manchester Amateur League.

Franks put in a demon spell, claiming five-wickets, including a hat-trick, to dismiss Ashton for 79 and become the first Maccabi player that has taken five wickets since Tammam three years ago

Haifa to face Bosnians in Champions League

Maccabi Haifa have been drawn against Bosnian champions FK Borac Banja Luka in the Champions League qualifers.

The Greens must come through three qualifying rounds as they look to make the group stage for the second time in three years.

In season 2009/10, Haifa became the first team to go through the groups phase without scoring a goal or taking a point.


Sela cruises into round two at Wimbledon

Dudi Sela breezed into the second round at Wimbledon following a straight sets victory over Frederico Gil of Portugal.

Wild card Sela claimed his 16th straight victory with an imperious display on Court 8.

He completed a confident performance 6-4, 6-1, 6-4, before the rain came.

His victory came hot on the heels of Shahar Peer's exit.
