Tennis stars warm-up in style for Paralympics

Israel will feature members of their World Wheelchair Tennis Championship winning team when they take part in next month’s Paralympic Games in London.

Boaz Kramer, Shraga Weinberg and Noam Gershony fought off the challenge of Great Britain to win the title in Seoul.

Ling finishes Southgate off

Southgate Synagogue CC went down by three wickets in a friendly away against Torquay United.

Ashley Smoker steered Southgate to a score of 172-4 with an excellent 72 not out. Shmulie Weinbaum (36) and Robin Taitz added valuable runs.

An inspired knock from Damon Lathrope took the game away from Southgate, with Martin Ling, the Torquay United football manager, hitting the winning runs.


Chigwell Athletic unveil new signings

Chigwell Athletic this week made a big statement of intent with the announcement of three new signings.

Joining recent acquisition Richard Baum are Brad Gayer, Pierce Prince and Dean Ben Yosef.

Midfielder Gayer, 18, the former Charlton academy player, was snapped up from east London rivals Woodford Wanderers.


Mixed bag for Israeli clubs in Europa League

Late strikes from Dino Ndlovu and Pedro Galvan earned Bnei Yehuda a 2-0 victory over Shirak in the first leg of the Europa League second qualifying round.

The Israelis played the second half with 10 men after Aviv Hadad was sent off.

Maccabi Netanya went down 2-1 at home to KuPS. Substitute Yossi Shivhon registered for Maccabi.

Chigwell & Hainault cruise past BECC 2nd

An impressive bowling and fielding performance helped Chigwell & Hainault power to a comprehensive victory over Belmont & Edgware 2nd in a friendly.

BECC won the toss and elected to bat but were never able to put their foot on the accelerator due to some miserly bowling and a slightly damp outfield.


MAL edge past LMV 2nd in thrilling friendly

MAL claimed a thrilling last-ball victory in a four-run victory against London Maccabi Vale 2nd.

Skippered by Mark Landau, MAL elected to bat first on a good surface at Old Camdenians, but with a long outfield, openers Russell Corin and Adam Katten found runs hard to come by.

Boca are ever improving and nearly walked away with the win Wednesday night against a strong Faithfold C outfit.

Having beaten a joint-Norstar team three days earlier, Boca went into the game on a high. Two goals from Michael Goldberg, described by one Boca insider as 'the Jewish Messi', put them in a strong position, only for a last-gasp 30-yard to break their hearts.
