Player-manager Mitch Young believes his team have take a big step in the right direction following the 4-0 win over Assyria in the Middlesex Sunday Junior League.

Ahead of tomorrow's match against Division One leaders Copland, Young said: "We have nine games to go and we can't get too excited from this result as we face a tough match."

Looking back at the biggest win of their season, he said: "The work-rate, organisation and quality of football was so pleasing.

Leeds lose

Strikes from Jonny Alexander, Jordan Gold and Elliot Cantor saw Westdene 1st become the first side to beat runaway MJSL Joan Collins Premier Division leaders Leeds JNF J-Uni after a five-goal thriller. Jonathan Green and James Lesner replied for Leeds.

A depleted Crumpsall team, who due to injuries could only field nine-men, earned an admirable draw against Oakhill Lions. Uri Steinberg put Crumpsall ahead with Mick Kohn replying for the Lions.

Haroldeans thumped Westdene Reserves 5-0 courtesy of strikes from Eric Lewis (2), Zach Goodman, Stephen Rubin and an own goal.

Title fight

Unbeaten light-welterweight Dmitriy Salita, 26 has been installed as No. 1 contender for Andrea Kotelnik’s WBA world title.

The pair were due to meet last year but Kotelnik twice pulled out. He will now have to face Salita or risk being stripped of his title.

While he waits for his title opportunity, Salita will take a warm-up fight against a still-to-be-named opponent at the Aviator Complex in Brooklyn on April 2. “I am thrilled to get back in the ring and excited about getting a title shot soon,” he said.

Jimmy Lester cancelled out Adam Hakimi's opener to earn London Maccabi Lions B a point at Chigwell Athletic A. Lewis Walker and Jamie Shaw struck as Glenthorne United A came from behind to beat Faithfold A.

Mike Pearson (2), Andy Myers, Tony Gold and Max Fieldgrass steered London Maccabi Lions A to a 5-1 win over Bafana Bafana.

Ram slams decision

Israeli doubles specialist Andy Ram believes that Sweden have made a “stupid decision” in preventing fans from attending the Davis Cup tie between the two nations, starting today.

Having become embroiled in an international dispute over a visa to compete in Dubai last month, he said: “I think it was a wrong decision. Maybe it will open the door for other countries to make a stupid decision like this one. I think it’s going to be very bad to play without a crowd.”

A brace from Elliott Gold moved Woodford Wanderers a big step closer to the Division Four title as they beat rivals UJS Norstar 2-1.

After a last Sunday’s defeat to Real Life, Woodford set out to get there fight for the title back on track.

Manager Alex Aviram welcomed back goalkeeper John Nehard, star striker Mitch Hahn and attacking full-back Andy Levy into the starting line-up but was hit with a big blow when the skipper and centre-back Jamie Shafron failed a late fitness test.

A hat-trick from Adam Stolerman kept London Lions breathing down the necks of leaders Met Police (Bushey) as they finished in seventh heaven at Rowley Lane.

Player-manager, supersub Tony Gold, Ben Lampert, Andy Glynne and Danny Castle completed the rout.

Very rarely are football teams found in seventh heaven after 90 minutes but that is exactly where London Lions ended up after a scintillating 7-1 win over Buntingford Town.

Assyria 0 - FC Team 4

FC Team claimed one of their best wins of the season to beat Assyria 4-0 away.

Another big test faced Mitch Young's men as travelled to fifth-placed Turkish side Assyria.

Coming off the back off a 1-1 draw with Wilberforce, Team wanted to get something from the game. They lined up in the usual 4-4-2 formation but Mitch Lassman moved back into right midfield to allow for the full debut of striker Andy Croll. Young moved out to the left and the same back four was intact for the fourth consecutive game.
