Israel finish Olympics with two bronzes

Israel's hopes of a third medal to add to the two bronzes won in judo were dashed on the final day in Rio when the rhythmic gymnastics team put in an impressive performance but only finished in sixth place.

And the team coach later hit out at what she described as "non-objective" judging and other teams being allocated far better training conditions than Israel.

Beitar Jerusalem face an uphill face an uphill task in their attempts to reach the Europa League Group Stage for the first time after slumping to a 2-1 home defeat to French outfit St. Etienne in the playoff round on Wednesday night.

Moses splashdown

American water polo legend Merrill Moses announced his retirement from the USA team after they failed to get out of the group stages in Rio.

Moses, the 39-year-old, 6ft 3in goalie, posted a tweet before the USA's match against Italy, which they won 10-7, that it was to be his last match.

Zoe quits

Olympic silver medallist Zoe de Toledo has confirmed she will quit rowing to resume her studies.

De Toledo, 28, the cox who helped GB's women's eight to an historic second placed finish in Rio, will not be going for gold in Tokyo 2020.

Instead the post-graduate student will swap the oars for her books and return to Oxford University to take up medicine.

Israeli Under-16 International striker Amir Berkovich is set to join Championship outfit Barnsley.

The 16-year-old Hapoel Ra'anana player impressed and scored earlier this month in a 3-3 youth match against Everton.

Berkovich - no relation to former Israel international Eyal Berkovich - scored 25 goals last season for Hapoel Ra'anana youth team.

Raisman signs off with another medal

Aly Raisman signed off her Olympic Games with a silver medal in the floor routine.

The defending champion scored a 15.500 for her precise tumbling and own arsenal of extremely difficult tumbling skills.

But it wasn't enough to overhaul fellow American gymnast Simone Biles with Britain's Amy Tinkler, who at just 16, winning bronze.

The Australian put in a storming display to win a bronze medal in the women's K1 kayak competition.

The 22-year-old picked up a two-second penalty in the final but was still able to clock a time of 102.49 on her way to winning another Olympic medal.
