Maccabi Masters review: April 19

This year’s Nathan Horwitz MMFL Division 2 Cup final will not – as has been the tradition – feature EDRS Stonegrove, after they were defeated in a closely-fought semi-final against Maccabi London Lions.

A solitary strike from Michael Abraham was all that separated the teams.

If goals were in short supply in the Cup, however, the day’s League games certainly made up for them!

Israel cycling Academy wins again

Israel’s Elite men’s Cycling Team Academy were toasting a fifth success when Lubos Malovec sprinted to victory in the Czech Republic Cup event, the 104km GP Hohovec Morava.

Formed four months ago, the race marked the Academy team’s first win in Europe, with Malovec, the under-23 champion from the city of Zilina, in outstanding form as he won the U23 and the Elite categories.

Young guns impress on the national stage again

With the outdoor track season now under way, Eden Davis, 16, and David Stone, 13, have lost no time in establishing their places near the top of the national rankings.

Herts Phoenix sprinter Davis recorded 10.97 for 100m at the Lee Valley Open Meeting, for third place in the UK U17 list. This followed a 100m victory and 200m second place in the Herts Phoenix Open Graded Meeting.

Team manager and coach Feld will lead the squad on the trip, which marks the start of a new legacy by Project Israel, an organisation formed to bring sports and cultural tours from the UK to Israel.

Hebrew Hammer registers 16th victory

Undefeated American light-welterweight Cletus Seldin – the self-styled Hebrew Hammer – is certainly living up to his nickname.

The Brooklyn-based 28-year-old made it 16 straight wins by beating Michigan’s Johnny Garcia with a fifth-round stoppage at the Huntington Theatre in his home state last month and is now rated at number 18 by the WBC.
