Abridge light up Seniors event

Abridge were the dominant force at the AJGC&S Seniors tournament at Shirley Golf Club.

The Essex club lifted the Coombe Hill Trophy after returning an aggregate score 10 shots better than Moor Allerton, who took home the Potters Bar Trophy as runners-up.

Flying start for GB at JCC Games

Team Maccabi GB got straight down to business in Cherry Hill, New Jersey at the JCC Maccabi Games 2014 with 17 medals including four gold, nine silver and four bronze on the first day.

And the medals kept pouring in on day two with the delegation winning an incredible 46 across all sports.

We did it all for Shon

Israel made history after winning gold in the European Championships – and then dedicated their triumph to Shon Mondshire.

Peter Kurz’s side romped home after beating hosts Slovenia in the final.

All squad members had the initials SM emblazoned on their caps in memory of Mondshire, the former Israel baseball player who was killed while serving in Gaza.

Awat moves upstairs at Real Mallorca

Veteran Israeli goalkeeper Dudu Awat has hung up his gloves.

Real Mallorca stopper Awat, 36, has been appointed the club’s General Manager and is set to announce that he is buying the Spanish club as the head of a consortium of Spanish businesspeople, but denies reports that Roman Abramovich is involved.

Conflict ruining sporting dreams

The Gaza conflict is wreaking havoc with Israel’s international sports ambitions.

September had promised to be a festival of sports in football, tennis and basketball, but many events are being moved away from the country.

Israel’s showpiece opener in the Euro 2016 qualifiers against Belgium at Teddy Stadium in Jerusalem on September 9 looked likely to be moved to a neutral venue.

Sanford dedicates Euro medal to IDF

Donald Sanford made history when he became the first Israeli to win a sprint medal at the European
athletics championships — one he dedicated to the IDF.

Sanford won the 400metres bronze in Zurich, denying Great Britain a 123 finish, with a new Israeli record of 45.27secs, breaking the 45.39secs he had set in the semi-final.

Greek test awaits Maccabi

Maccabi Tel-Aviv will face Asteras Tripolis of Greece in the Europa League playoff round.

The Israeli champions come up against an Asteras who eliminated Mainz after overcoming a first leg deficit to progress 3-1 on aggregate.

Maccabi were beaten 3-2 by Maribor in the third qualifying round of the Champions League on Tuesday.
