Youngsters show great character
CRICKET Team GB’s Maccabiah juniors gave a good account of themselves in a warm-up match against Middlesex Sunday League Division One Harrow St Mary’s 1st.
Against experienced players, GB were soon up against it as HSM raced to 170-2 off 22 overs. Matters improved immensely as in the past 18 overs GB conceded 100 runs and took seven wickets. Daniel Cohen and Seb Schusman claimed two wickets apiece with Jacob Reza, Jordan Godden, Huddy Lieberman and Josh Hershowitz also taking scalps as HSM closed on 270-9.
In reply, the Maccabiah team did not start well, losing three wickets for 20 runs. But a partnership of 133 between Ryan Levy (78) and Scott Gerard (65) improved matters.
Towards the end of the innings, Josh Hershowitz hit three sixes in scoring 37 not out and the Maccabiah team finished on a respectable 223-6.
Junior cricket chairman Neil Myeroff said: “The boys showed a lot of character after shaky starts in both innings and the encouragement they gave to each other on and off the field was exceptional.”
