Coombe Hill’s Stephen Schindler tees off
GOLF Host club Hartsbourne were crowned winners of the prestigious Metropolitan Trophy.
Club captain Nick Wilson received the silverware after a competition hampered by torrential showers.
Playing off two, Mark Gershinson mastered the conditions. He started his round with four successive birdies and eventually signed for an exceptional score of 69 (-2 under par), winning the Coombe Hill Cup for the best men’s individual gross score.
Dyrham Park’s Laura Rael Brook took the ladies individual title, going round in 86. She won the Shirley Porter Cup for the best women’s individual gross.
The Metropolitan Golf tournament was the first event of the 2009 golf season, organised under the auspices of the Association of Jewish Golf Clubs & Societies.
London based Abridge, Dyrham Park, Coombe Hill, Hartsbourne and Potters Bar featured alongside the Sussex Jewish Golf Society with teams consisting eight men and four ladies from each club.
