Maccabi Masters review: April 22
Scrabble came away with a surprise 4-3 victory over cup finalists Glenthorne United A in Division One of the Maccabi Masters League. Danny Sugarman (2) and Jason Levy registered for Glenthorne.
Less of a surprise was North London Raiders’ win over South Mancs, although few will have predicted the scoreline, with Raiders running out 9-1 winners.
Gary Cohen (3), Wayne Davidson (2), Lloyd Becker (2), Gavin Hodes and Darren Cohen were the marksmen.
Fewer still would have won any money backing the South Mancs scorer, player-manager Dan Graham, who put aside any disappointment in the result to focus on his rare strike, which he likened to one from Romanian great, Gheorghe Hagi, insisting it was intentional.
In Division Two, London Maccabi Lions retained top spot with a 4-1 win over Glenthorne C, courtesy of goals from Stuart Coutts, David Price and Marc Morris (2). Guest Marc Schneiderman replied for Glenthorne.
Not to be outdone, their title rivals Glenthorne B also recorded a 4-1 win, over Hendon Harriers, with goals from Paul Vangelder (2), Ray Russell and Gary Adams. Andy Diamond replied for Harriers.
Temple Fortune kept a clean sheet as they put five past Clayhall Park Casuals, with Gary Burns, Yali Mamouri, Jeremy Fess, Graham Meyer and Alan Harounoff all getting on the scoresheet.
And Brady B thrashed Ashlodge 8-0 with goals from David ‘Jammie’ Jacobs (2), Gary Good (2), Daniel Collins, Roger Kay, Jonny Lauder and Marc Herman.
