Republic’s magnificent 7 strike gold
Republic of Mancunia 2nd manager Paul Levy paid tribute to his players after they lifted the Mike Samberg Israel seven-a-side trophy.
Levy’s side defeated Hyde Park Rovers 3-2 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in the final.
Daniel Klapisch kept his nerve to score the winning penalty, while keeper Dan Caplin was the hero after pulling off a number of stunning saves.
Levy says his side deserved their victory after seeing off Republic 1st in the quarter-final and Crumpsall in the last four.
"The lads did very well but the heat played a big factor,” said Levy.
"Both sets of players were out on their feet at the end because of the heat and they could barely run.
"But I’m delighted for the boys and it’s always nice to win a trophy.
"It was just a great day with over 150 lads from the north getting together to play football and all the money goes to charity which is great."
The tournament, which is run annually, is estimated to have raised around £1,000 for Magen David Adom in Israel.
