Young guns impress

Jonny Cohen, the manager of the Maccabi GB Futsal team, praised youngsters Scott Kashket and Sam Sollosi following a series of excellent displays on Matchday Four of the National Futsal League Southern Division Two.

Maccabi took seven points from a possible 12 at the University of East London’s Sportsdock arena, Kashkett (2), Russell Goldstein and Ben Sollosi helped Maccabi make a winning start as they came from behind to beat Reading Futsal 6-5.

A poor performance followed as Maccabi were beaten 4-2 by second-place Gloucester Futsal Revolution. Jamie Wolfson and Kashkett were the scorers for Maccabi.

The signs looked ominous in match three as Maccabi went 3-0 down against league leaders Kaunas. But a second-half double from Kashkett plus one from David Leiwy saw them come away with a draw. Sam Sollosi and Kashkett featured prominently in the comeback against strong eastern European opposition.

Goals from Jonathan Green, Ben Sollosi, Sam Sollosi, Goldstein and Leiwy sealed a 5-3 victory in the final match against Plymouth.

Cohen said: "On the one hand, there are so many positives to come out of today - in particular the magnificent debuts of Scott Kashkett and Sam Sollosi. Then there is also the huge character the team showed in coming from behind on so many occasions.

"However, there is also an underlying feeling of frustration that we could have achieved so much more had we maintained concentration throughout the day.

"The team is in an embryonic state and we are learning about this wonderful game all the time. We have one matchday left in Gloucester on April 29 and I hope to take a big squad there and once again prove to all that we are the best futsalling team in this league."
