WATFORD FRIENDLY LEAGUE UNDER NINE GREEN DIVISION
Alexandra Park South 0 Pinner JFC 6
Pinner JFC won the WFL Under Nine Green Division with a thumping 6-0 success over Alexandra Park South.
The Sky Blues went into their final league game of the season away to Alexander Park South knowing that a win would seal top spot.
The day was perfect. Some might even say slightly too hot. But it was Pinner who were on fire as soon as the whistle blew.
From the off, the Sky Blues took the initiative and came out of the blocks looking like champions elect, with some mercurial runs down the left wing by top scorer Ben 'the Bullet' Green who tested the Park keeper with a couple of stinging shots within the first minute.
Pinner piled on the pressure and within two minutes, a lazy mazy run from Green produced a sweet cross, which was met full on by the right boot of Adam Cohen to open the scoring.
The Sky Blues continued to dominate which resulted in Green, who needed four goals to go level with the division’s top scorer, netting his hat-trick before half time. He was like a man on a mission and when the break came, a rather bemused Park found themselves already well beaten.
There was not much that the hosts could do to prevent such a decisive scoreline where Pinner’s no. 2 keeper, Simon Cohen had little to do.
In the second period the Sky Blues continued to dominate and Green was rewarded with his fourth goal with an amazing sprint down the wing to the by line to clinically finish from a very tight angle - one of his most formidable traits.
Guy 'Goal a game' Appel lived up to his reputation by tacking on three Park players and finishing off with a very Van Persie-esque finish, to take the score to 6-0 with 10 minutes to go.
Pinner were coasting and took their foot off the pedal where Park refused to lay down but were thwarted by magnificent defending from full backs Jake Greenfield and Dylan Tailor - the latter being awarded Man of the Match.
Equally, there was some outstanding goalkeeping for Simon Cohen who finished with another clean sheet, giving him three in as many appearances and being quite outstanding for someone who has only played in goal on the same number of occasions.
In midfield, fine athletic performances from Noah Abrahams, Jordan Davies and Adam Cohen epitomised the effort that has been put in throughout the season.
The final whistle came and the Sky Blues knew they had done what they had to do to be crowned Green Division Champions 2011-2012, and deservedly so. Park were very sporting in the way they played and in defeat too and congratulated the visitors even though such a defeat had been inflicted upon them on home turf.
The team have the week to soak up their achievement, before continuing in the Spring Cup next Sunday when they look to progress through the group stages and into the knockout proper, with only thoughts of a possible double keeping their focus on the games ahead.
