London Lions started 2012 with a bang after claiming a stunning 4-2 away win at Welwyn Garden City in the Molten Spartan South Midlands League.

Braces from defender Adam Myeroff and former Dagenham & Redbridge man Sam Sloma capped a fine display in a match where the Lions defied the odds.

They had no less than 30 players unavailable, had just one recognisable centre-half and only one substitute. Added to that, manager Tony Gold was bed-ridden with a virus.

Jon Green and David Snelman took control of the game, with Danny Berliner, Avi Schwarz, James Stanley, Dan Lipman and Aron Barnes all coming into the side for their first starts in several months.

The Lions made a flying start with defender Myeroff putting them in front from the penalty spot after just 30 seconds following a handball.

Welwyn turned the game on its head, scoring either side of half time, but a second spot-kick from the ice-cool Myeroff hauled the Lions level.

Lions then went 3-2 ahead with the impressive Sloma finishing superbly.

That goal gave Lions a huge lift and their extra pressure eventually told.

With just ten minutes remaining, Sloma struck the fatal blow with his second of the day to seal the win and give boss Gold the perfect remedy.

Lions: Danny Berliner, Aron Barnes, Adam Myeroff, Ben Lampert, Sam Sloma, Aviel Schwarz, Andy Glynne, Josh Kennet, Dan Stanton, Matt Stock (sub: James Stanley), Dan Lipman
