Joe Jacobson hopes to shine on big screen
Joe Jacobson is relishing the prospect of playing in front of the cameras when he comes up against non-league Newport County in the first round of the FA Cup on Saturday.
The Cardiff-born defender is set to start for Shrewsbury Town with a whole host of family and friends set to make the journey.
The game will be shown live on television and Jacobson says he cannot wait to get going against a Newport side managed by former Tottenham defender Justin Edinburgh.
"This is the game I really wanted and it has worked out perfectly" he said. "It's a great game for me as it's local to Cardiff and lots of my friends have already been in touch to see if I can get them tickets.
"The game is also on TV which is always good because you can record it and have a memento of the occasion.
"Obviously, if we lose then that will get deleted but hopefully that won’t be the case."
Jacobson has already tasted cup success this season, defeating Derby County and Swansea City in the Carling Cup before their hopes were ended by Arsenal at the Emirates.
The Shrews even took the lead against Premier League Arsenal in the third round before eventually going down 3-1 at Emirates Stadium.
This time, it's Shrewsbury who are facing the prospect of being embarrassed by a so-called smaller club, but Jacobson says his side will prepare in exactly the same way as they did for Arsenal.
He said: "It doesn't matter if you're playing Arsenal or Newport, we'll prepare in the same manner.
“We know that they’re a good team and they’ve got a couple of players there who I know well and used to play with.
"There's not a huge gap between the Blue Square Premier and League Two so we know we're in for a fight."
