Two goals from Alex Bourne helped an under-strength Harmen end the hopes of Division Four high-flyers Brady B at Rowley Lane.

Missing eight players, including Jon Morris, Zak White, Ben Murrell and others, Harmen boss Dan Uzan went into the tie "worried about a potential slip-up". But he need not have been as his team stood firm against a very well-organised and spirited Brady team.

Bourne, as dangerous as ever, scored two great goals. In try Theo Walcott style, he fell over the ball for the first, managed to get to his feet, drag the ball onto his left and smash the ball into the roof of the net.

His second was a fantastic header from a great corner by Lee Greenfield.

James Stanley, who was excellent on the right wing with Ben Harris, scored a penalty.

Avi Markiewitz scored his first goal for Harmen and it was peach from 25 yards. After dinking the ball past two players he found a bit of space and hit the ball very cleanly into the top corner.

But it was another old boy that really impressed Uzan. He said: "Grant Taylor, 36, filled in at centre back and was immense. For years Grant has come in and done a great job for me, and for me was man of the match."

Uzan added: "This was a great team performance and one we will build on. Credit to Brady who looked far too good to be in the division they are in, and I am confident we will see them climbing the leagues very quickly."

Brady boss Josh Dagul told JC Sport: "Overall we are very happy with the performance. It was always going to be a challenge when you consider that Southgate Harmen are a Premier Division side, and so we can't be too disheartened by the result.

"As far as the level of performance goes, we could not have asked the boys to put in any more than they did. In reality we played better than the score suggests but the result was justified, and there are definite positives we can take from the performance, if not the scoreline."
