Republic ready to bounce back, says Blackston
Les Blackston believes the good times are back at Republic of Mancunia following weeks of upheaval at the club.
Republic recently parted company with first team manager Stuart Shapiro despite having only unveiled him at the start of the season.
The departure of star striker Moshe Hasid, rumours of friction within the squad and a poor run of results ultimately led to Shapiro’s departure.
But Blackston, who will take charge of Sunday’s game with league leaders Haroldeans, says the famous Republic spirit is emerging once again.
“It was a bit difficult because Stuart obviously wanted to do things his way and some of the boys didn’t necessarily agree,” said Blackston.
“But that’s in the past and the spirit is really good and although we’ve not had the results or scored enough goals, I’m hoping we can have a right go at it.
“We’ve had a lot of young players coming in and they’re starting to gel now so that’s very encouraging.”
Blackston also revealed that he expects both Paul Basger and Jonny Lewis to return to the side, while Mike Gastwirth has re-signed after leaving during the summer.
“We’ve been playing some really good football but just getting the goals we deserve,” added Blackston.
“Obviously, Haroldeans have had a great start but we’re a good side and we’ll give it a go.”
