Peters: Life begins at 40
David Peters demonstrated that life begins at 40 by jumping to seventh in the UK M40 rankings for 800m. In his first track race of the season on returning from injury, he recorded 2:01.17 for second place in the Herne Hill Harriers open meeting.
Peters said: "Now that I am 40 I look to world-class athletes such as Merlene Ottey and Bernard Lagat to see that age need not be a barrier."
Jennifer Simmons, 20, set a PB of 63.6 for 400m hurdles in winning the North of England Division 1 event in Blackburn. This performance lifts her to 14th in the UK Under 23 rankings.
Shaftesbury's Sagie Benaim, 21, began his season late after graduating with first-class honours from Imperial College, London. Benaim set a personal best of 2:00.29 for 800m in finishing second at the London Inter Club Challenge in Woodford. He also recorded 2:02.26 for 800m and 4:05.89 for 1500m at separate open meetings in Watford.
Nick Davis, 17, of Harrow AC recorded a 400m PB of 52.3 in the 'B' stream in the Southern League Division 1 in Stevenage. He also placed third in 200m with 24.0.
Cardiff athlete Nathaniel Lane, 35, recorded a season's best of 15:08.38 for 5,000m in Birmingham.
