AC Whetstone complete league and cup double
AC Whetstone Under 14s
AC Whetstone Under 14s secured the league and cup double following a hard-fought win over Hendon in the final played at Wingate and Finchley.
Having already clinched the Maccabi league title with a 100 per cent record, the Stones began very strongly and had the first meaningful effort on target through Toby Nathan. They continued to press hard but were repelled by a resolute Hendon defence.
Hendon forged ahead midway through the first half when a fine move down the right resulted in an excellent finish from Binny Feinmesser.
Whetstone went in a goal down at half time with David Clements and Philippe Auret failing to capitalise on good openings.
Whestone were indebted to keeper Ben Pollins early in the second half and they levelled the scores after 45 minutes when Auret burst down the left and tucked in a fine finish from a tight angle to justify his hard running and persistence.
Whilst Hendon pushed for another goal the Whetstone defence was superbly marshalled by Noah Bier and Sammy Corper whilst in midfield Alex Woffenden and Dan Cohen exerted their normal grip.
The match was settled on 60 minutes when Jonah Gordon-Boyd powered through the Hendon defence to drive home the winner.
After the game the Whetstone team dedicated the win to their teammate, Tomer Tricot who broke his arm two days before the final.
