Republic back in business
Mike Gastwirth (centre) was the driving force behind Republic's victory
Republic of Mancunia bounced back from last weekend's devastating defeat by title rivals Manchester Maccabi 3rd by booking their place in the final of the Shonn Trophy.
With their dream of a first league title looking all but dead, Anthony Bloch's boys produced the perfect riposte to set up a final clash against Haroldeans following a 4-1 win over Sporting JLGB.
After last week's setback, Bloch demanded a response from his side and they showed their class as they cruised past Sporting with ease.
Mike Gastwirth scored twice, while a Darren Loofe free-kick and a Paul Basger penalty sealed the win with Rafi Bloom netting a consolation for Sporting.
Republic will now turn their attention to their Feldman Trophy semi-final showdown against South Manchester 2nd as they look to pull off a cup double.
Alastair Goldsmith was the hero for Haroldeans after netting a spectacular hat-trick to see off Hyde Park Rovers 5-2 in Liverpool.
Josh Silverberg also scored twice for the Merseysiders with Oli Grant grabbing a double for the visitors.
That result leaves Hyde Park's season hanging by a thread with the Feldman Trophy their only hope of picking up any silverware this year.
Elsewhere, Crumpsall will take on Sporting JLGB in the final of the Tony Cohen Trophy following a 4-1 win over Westdene 2nd.
Michael Freedman scored twice with Shiran Kramer and Zacky Pfeffer also on the scoresheet for the hosts while Gabby Silver replied for Westdene.
Sam Cantor scored four as a rampant South Manchester 1st thumped Lawds 7-1 in the Manchester Accountants League. After falling behind to an early goal, Simon Davis levelled before Cantor's quickfire double gave South Manchester a 3-1 lead at the break.
Further efforts from substitute Jack Lee and Mike Stratton completed the rout.
