London Lions thumped by London Colney

London Lions’s topsy-turvy form continued as a depleted side lost 4-1 to London Colney in the South Midlands League Division One.

The win one, lose one conveyor belt Lions currently find themselves on stayed true to form as manager Tony Gold once again had to make several changes to the team that had beaten Wodson Park midweek.

London Colney bossed the game from start to finish and were in control throughout.

Lions were lightweight in the wide attacking areas. They did not threaten and were equally poor defensively looking sluggish and uninterested.

London Colney played to their strengths and were two up in eight minutes thanks mainly to their giant centre forward who was unplayable at times.

Lions eventually got their passing game going and had a decent 20-minute period but in truth they never looked like penetrating.

Lions manager Tony Gold described the defeat as the poorest performance since the defeat at New Bradwell’.

Gold said: “In many ways this performance was worse then New Bradwell because although we were depleted for both games at least today we had home advantage with decent conditions.

“We conceded two bad early goals and never really got started.”

He went on to say: “I am fed up with the lack of commitment and consistency but I am the manager who picked the team and chose the tactics and sent them out.

“The players know themselves that this display was way below the levels we have set in the last two years. But the reality is if I haven’t got the players I have to make do with what’s available.

“This level takes no prisoners and as we have found to our cost once again, if collectively we are not switched on, not ready to compete and not willing to give 100 per cent we will get punished”.
