South Manchester rediscover winning formula

South Manchester 1st finally found their scoring touch against bottom of the table Accenture, and avoided being dragged into a relegation tussle in the process.

True to form, as happened last week, a chance was missed in the first minute when a Jacobs cross was somehow missed by the South forwards.

Ultimately it was not to affect the result but after missing a number of chances it was no surprise when South fell to the usual sucker punch conceding to a set piece after 30 minutes.

Previous weeks had seen South fold at this point but a bit of grit engendered by the returning Mike Filson and Danny Schweiger meant that this time did not capitulate and just before half time the reward came when after good work by Sam Cantor, Ben Peppi drew South level with a cool finish.

Half time saw manager Darryl Lee reiterate that passing the ball around their opponents would produce results and so it proved after 65 minutes when sustained pressure saw Marc Yaffe volley the ball in at the far post from a Peppi cross.

This was the first time South had been ahead in a game for many weeks and the confidence started to flow. With 15 minutes remaining Filson smashed a free kick beyond the keeper to seal the result.

Man of the Match Michael Stratton then powered home a header from a set piece to add a bit of gloss to an already comfortable victory.

South climb to the heady heights of fourth in the Accountants League Premier Division after this 4-1 win but do not return to league action until November 28 as cup competitions now kick in.
