MJSL best is yet to come, says Simons

Martin Simons has struck fear into the hearts of the MJSL by declaring there's more to come from his rampant Maccabi machine.

The league leaders racked up their fifth consecutive victory of the season to maintain their 100 per cent record following a comfortable 2-0 win over Westdene 1sts.

Talented midfielder Louie Basso continued his impressive run of form with a classy double to give Maccabi victory and send them six points clear at the summit.

But manager Simons was left unimpressed with his side's showing – despite watching them romp to victory yet again.

"We played a little below par against a competitive Westdene side," admitted Simons.

"Chances were at a premium and although we bossed possession we didn't create too many scoring chances.

"Next we take on Hyde Park Rovers in what will be their first game of the season and we don't really know what to expect.

"But we're relishing the challenge ahead of what will hopefully be another test for our young and enthusiastic squad."

Elsewhere, Haroldeans notched their first win of the season with the 5-0 thumping of Westdene 2nds.

Josh Silverberg was the hero for the visitors, netting a superb hat-trick, while Jamie Harris and an own-goal completed the scoring for the Merseysiders.

"We could have won by a lot more, " said manager Ivan Gee.

"It was a good performance by the boys but we really should have scored
a lot more goals."

Sporting JLGB grabbed their first win of the season with the 4-0 thrashing of Crumpsall.

Jarod Cohen scored a hat-trick and Rafi Bloom netted a spectacular long-range strike as Sporting eased home with room to spare.

But Crumpsall boss Zevi Saunders was left to reflect on a fourth straight defeat and cut a frustrated figure after his side missed a first half penalty.

"It was a very scrappy match played
in difficult conditions," said Saunders.

"We missed a penalty and then they went on to score the goals but we played some nice stuff.

"Next up is Oakhill and we're hoping they'll be a little rusty as it's their first match."
